Agreed - but if the UK thinks that somehow America will run to our aid now that we are running away from Europe, I think the reaction to this incident is a true indication of the state of the so called "special relationship".
I wouldn't expect any help from the US unless it was mutually beneficial
Indeed, they've already stitched us up over these oil tankers. Giving us dodgy info so we board the Iranian tanker off the coast of Gibraltar, then backing away saying, "Not my problem, mate," when the Iranians take one of ours in retaliation.

And as has been pointed out above a lot of what Trump says is hated because he is Trump. When Clinton, Sanders or Obama quotes are attributed to Trump students think they are hateful.

What are you talking about? Iirc Trump wants us to leave. Putting that aside I don't blame the USA one bit for not helping us, we're not exactly friendly lately are we?

I'm talking about the reality of the situation. We constantly try to suck up to the US and they slap us down. Yet people like Liam Fox are telling us that America will always be our friend. I have no problem with the US looks after itself. It's us who are stupid expecting them to look after us too.

I'm always reminded of the Warner Brothers "Spike and Chester" animated shorts.

How are they always slapping us down?

Just like they have today. We ask for help - they say - "not our problem mate".

It's us who are being dumb - not them.

They did it back in 1956 too.

America isn't our friend.
What's your evidence?
Evidence provided.
Well, the EU isn't our friend either.

I'm amazed if you sincerely belive that.

There are also Americans that think the Sphinx is in Las Vegas. I'm not sure this really takes us very far. Certainly, many of trump's statements could not have come from anyone else, and also there are the lies.

Over 10,000 now since taking office.

I was responding to you from earlier in the thread. What I am supposed to be distracting from?

I'll leave him to it.

America primarilly looks after itself - which is perfectly fine by me.

Some in the UK has this notion that we and the US are real buddies - just like Chester thinks Spike is his buddy- but Spike just smacks Chester in the mouth and snarls "Awww - just shuddup". That's more or less what Pompeo said to the UK today.
