Agreed - but if the UK thinks that somehow America will run to our aid now that we are running away from Europe, I think the reaction to this incident is a true indication of the state of the so called "special relationship".
I wouldn't expect any help from the US unless it was mutually beneficial JustALooseScrew said:

One mans social progress is another mans decimation of social values
And as has been pointed out above a lot of what Trump says is hated because he is Trump. When Clinton, Sanders or Obama quotes are attributed to Trump students think they are hateful.

I'm talking about the reality of the situation. We constantly try to suck up to the US and they slap us down. Yet people like Liam Fox are telling us that America will always be our friend. I have no problem with the US looks after itself. It's us who are stupid expecting them to look after us too.
How are they always slapping us down?Down and out said:

How are they always slapping us down? It's us who are being dumb - not them.
They did it back in 1956 too.

Put just about anything anybody else says into Trumps mouth and it will be slaughtered, leave it at source and it will be praised, justified and redeemed.
I'm amazed if you sincerely belive that.https://youtu.be/IzC-l7tovFk
Over 10,000 now since taking office.

There are also Americans that think the Sphinx is in Las Vegas. I'm not sure this really takes us very far. Certainly, many of trump's statements could not have come from anyone else, and also there are the lies.
Over 10,000 now since taking office.
And I get accused of whataboutism! Over 10,000 now since taking office.
I'll leave him to it.
America primarilly looks after itself - which is perfectly fine by me.
Some in the UK has this notion that we and the US are real buddies - just like Chester thinks Spike is his buddy- but Spike just smacks Chester in the mouth and snarls "Awww - just shuddup". That's more or less what Pompeo said to the UK today.
