Experts amazed as GOP counsel Castor offers stunningly weak defense of Trump at hearing

Attorney Steve Castor, the Republican Party’s lead counsel in House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearings, did his best to defend President Donald Trump — but many experts believe his best was far from sufficient.

Throughout his opening statement, Castor barely touched upon the core allegations that Trump abused his office in order to pressure a foreign government to launch an investigation into his top rival in the 2020 presidential election.

In fact, Castor spent most of his time attacking Democrats, whom he accused of making up wild charges to bring down the president.

Unfortunately it's what works in the media a lot, so not too surprising they just try and repeat it elsewhere. Seems to be becoming more common and crosses right/left divides - Labour and the SNP are doing it about the NHS as another example.

True, but Giuliani is just a comical pantomime villain.

Barr is the really scary one.

Also in the report - This is new, completely blows away trumps arguments

Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored several reports alleging links between Russia and Trump's 2016 campaign, had been a personal friend of Ivanka Trump, a relationship that he said made him "favorably disposed" to the Trump family.

The previously unknown friendship between former intelligence officer Christopher Steele and Ivanka Trump was alluded to in a new report released Monday by the Justice Department’s inspector general, which said Steele had “been friendly” with a Trump family member, a relationship he described as “personal.”

Steele told investigators he had visited the Trump family member at Trump Tower in New York and had once gifted the person a family tartan from Scotland.

A person familiar with Steele’s business Orbis confirmed that the family member was Ivanka Trump.

Also, from what we know about the NY office of the FBI and it's agents leaking damaging information about Clinton to Giuliani, the report has:

A footnote cited FBI officials who supported Mr. Trump's campaign and expressed hostility toward Mrs. Clinton. It quoted text messages celebrating his surprise electoral win, including one by an agent who later explained he was glad Mrs. Clinton lost.

Barr of course said differently and has announced his own investigation because yet another didn't meet trumps consipracy claims.

“The inspector general’s report now makes clear that the F.B.I. launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken,” Mr. Barr, a close ally of President Trump who has begun his own re-investigation of the Russia inquiry, said in a statement.

Those text messages from FBI agents are on a different scale to those consistantly pushed by trump from Strzok and Page

“I saw a lot of scared Mfers...this morning,” one FBI agent jokes to another in the wake of Trump’s victory.

These text message are in some of the most heavily redacted pages in the report, discussing two confidential sources, one of them provided secret information that the IG appears to have been alarmed to find still residing in FBI’s files.

Fox news and Hannity spent all last night pushing that trump was right
The number-two House Republican is asserting that the IG’s report “proves” a conclusion that it SPECIFICALLY REJECTS.

🚨 BREAKING → The IG report proves Obama officials abused their FISA power to trigger an investigation into @realDonaldTrump's campaign.

Just more evidence Dems will break any rule or law to rig an election against Trump.

These crooked bureaucrats must be held accountable!

Ambassador McFaul ‘shocked’ Trump invited Sergey Lavrov back to the Oval Office: ‘What are they thinking?’

Minister Lavrov shows up as Trump is being impeached. Did Putin send Lavrov to put the squeeze on him to lift sanctions while he’s at his weakest and most desperate? It's always been about the sanctions

The Daily Mail is claiming there is more kompromat, that the IG report says that Steele didn't provide all the salacious info to the FBI.

The IG cites one report, numbered 113, that references sources based in St. Petersburg, Russia as stating that Trump 'has paid bribes and engaged in sexual activities in St. Petersburg, including participating in sex parties, but that witnesses had been 'silenced,' i.e., bribed or coerced to disappear).'

It states: 'Report 97 (the Kremlin is concerned that political fallout from the DNC hacking operation is spiraling out of control; a source close to the Trump campaign confirms that the regular exchange of intelligence between the Trump team and the Kremlin had existed for at least 8 years; the Kremlin had determined not to use compromising information against Trump given how cooperative his team had been over several years and of late).'

I absolutely do not trust Trump, but can he not say that Trump/Ivanka declined his business "offer"/ they grew apart etc, and so Steele then did this in revenge/ to get back at them? Purely saying this as I imagine it will be what Trump etc do.

Rick Gates is still ongoing.
In sentencing memo, he admits "he assisted Mr. Manafort in some of his criminal activity ... & engaged in unlawful conduct on a much smaller scale for his own benefit."

His cooperation was "part of his continuing effort to make amends." and of course he's asking for a sentence without prison time as he's spent 500+ hours with the special counsel's office and other prosecution offices.
