Beyond a bad comedy show with telegraphed punchlines at this point. Happy Martin Luther King Day, let’s celebrate with ridiculous statements and a gun rally!

Here it comes, McConnell doing his best

In a 4-page resolution, Mitch McConnell said that the impeachment trial opening arguments would begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Each side will be given 24 hours to present their case over just a two-day period

Schumer responds to the McConnell resolution: "I will be offering amendments to address the many flaws in this deeply unfair proposal and to subpoena the witnesses and documents we have requested."

"Tomorrow, before the resolution is adopted, we will be able to introduce amendments and we will introduce a whole series of amendments for witnesses, for documents and other ways to straighten out what McConnell has done and make it a real trial."

"McConnell promised over and over again, senators repeated over and over again, we're going to follow the Clinton model. This departs from the Clinton model in many very significant and very important ways in an effort to cover up."

Shouldn't be surprised. McConnel said he was going to be doing the White House bidding

Block any witnesses

Trump's lawyers and Senate Republicans are working privately to ensure John Bolton does not testify publicly.

One option being discussed would be to move Bolton's testimony to a classified setting, ensuring that it's not public.

McConnell proposes BIG change from the Clinton Rules: Info and testimony collected by the House is NOT AUTOMATICALLY evidence in the Senate. There would have to be a motion to admit this evidence AFTER a vote on the question of subpoenaing additional witnesses and info.

White House will have the right to make a motion to dismiss the impeachment articles just after the resolution setting the rules for the trail is adopted, per McConnell resolution

Lev Parnas and his attorney Joseph Bondy have filed a letter aimed at forcing Bill Barr to recuse himself from the criminal case against Parnas, and forcing the appointment of a special prosecutor from “outside the Department of Justice” to take over the case. The letter alleges that Barr’s DOJ has been withholding key evidence and information from Parnas that could help him at trial.

https://twitter.com/KlasfeldReports/status/1219359...

Remember, this is the same judge who recently gave Parnas permission to hand over the evidence in his criminal case to the House Intelligence Committee.

Chance of a good plea bargain for Parnas without Barr in the way?

Fox news have reported that Congressional Members of trumps impeachment team are Reps Doug Collins, Mike Johnson, Jim Jordan, Debbie Lesko, Mark Meadows, John Ratcliffe, Elise Stefanik, and Lee Zeldin.

Last week team trump said they wouldmn't use House Republicans in the Senate impeachment trial
They’re not going to be arguing on the floor, which is what the president had wanted. They’ll be surrogates/advisers, so extra people to go onto the media in the evening to push trumps side?

If i understand this correctly, IF there are any witnesses, their testimonies will be given behind closed doors and then the republicans will decide if they want their evidence to be heard?

If that is true, it is astonishing. Well, it would be for any fair and just legal system, for Trump, its just another day in office

A little nod to Boris just a moment ago.

Now he is, finally, talking about the rest of the world.

It’s cringe inducing.

What is the actual point of this impeachment, given the absolute certainty of the outcome? It's exactly like being tried for murder while knowing that seven of your best mates are on the jury. How can the integrity of a President be judged in such a partisan fashion? Trump likes to label everything as a sham, including the impeachment trial, but now we're at the point of 'action' (sic) he's stopped calling it that.

Vote winning. When it comes to the election time democrats will be able to point to the corrupt impeachment trial.

The democrats don't need to sway a huge volume of voters as trump didn't win by a huge margin in 2016 and has lost significant popularity since.

I am not sure politically that it was a good move. It may well lose them more than it wins, in terms of votes.
BUT it was the right thing to do from an accountability perspective.
It is literally the job of congress (and the senate) to hold the President accountable for his actions.
If you ignore corrupt criminal behaviour by the President now, then you have given the green light for all sorts of shenanigans.

More importantly, when this whole sorry saga is written up in history books, the GOP who supported him will also get tainted...
