Apologies for idiocy . . . but I'd rather appear an idiot here than to my wife and nine year old when they get back from the school run with first night takeaway treat . .

Moved in today. Have gas and power but can't get hot water. Worcester boiler, newish, with hot water tank.

Seems to be a Hive equipped house.

Old fashioned immersion heater switch in airing cupboard, but doesn't do anything apparently except light up, so I wonder if redundant now.

Clever digital display in kitchen that helpfully tells me we've spent 70p today, and some sort of controller in the living room with a knob. Bizarrely the power shower doesn't want to give me hot water either, but that could be broken by coincidence.

All I want is hot water . . . suggestions?

Hive may or may not control the hot water, but if it does press the menu button (bottom middle) a couple of times to get into the menu, turn to hot water, press knob in to select and then turn on/off or configure the schedule.

Does your controller look like the one in this user manual?

On mobile data (BT engineer for broadband next week) so couldn't download manual).

Middle menu button just elicits 'Receiving' then 'No Signal'.

Progress! There was an isolator switch to the boiler, hidden behind removal boxes!

Now I'm up to here . . .

It sounds like the stat & controller aren't talking. See this page:

Is the receiver by the boiler so you can manually trigger the HW?

It's odd they left the Hive Hub.

According to Hive you should take your Hive Hub with you when you move house and the person moving in has to buy a new one. The Hive Hub in your house will still be linked to the email address of the old occupier (and can be controlled by the old occupier.)

Thanks - I'll talk to British Gas tomorrow. We'll be going with Bulb (I assume).

Should you need a referral code....

Actually, look at Octopus as well: my sister went with them as they were a bit cheaper. I wasn't too impressed!

I am under the impression that the previous owner should have taken the hub with them, but it looks like they forgot.

The Hive account is in their name and I don't think you can have it transferred to yourself.
