Hello fellow PH's

First, not sure if this is the right place to post this, so I do apologise if its in the wrong section.

My father has owned this car for the past 5 years and its an absolutely brilliant van. Over 20 years old and has only done 45k odd miles. However, there is an issue on this car that has left us bamboozled and even other mechanics.

Every time my dad hits the brakes there would be a banging noise on the left passenger side. The brakes have worked the same even before this issue started occurring. After a week of this issue starting, the wheel had started to get very hot but that issue is no longer persistent. We decided to get a mechanic to come and identify the issue but was told there was nothing wrong. He inspected the whole wheel arch and there were no faults that caught his eye. We then also decided to take it to Kwik Fit but was told the same thing. I've tried searching on google to see whether anyone else has experienced the same problem but couldn't find any.

This is my only hope of finding the answer to rectify this issue as my dad does wish to keep the van for a longer time.

Take it for an MOT, that should reveal what is wrong.

It's most likely the brake caliper is seized, so it's not releasing the disk completely.

This will warp the the brake disk which will cause banging but I am not why sure the noise has gone but if wheel is getting hot it will definitely be the caliper.

You are confused, I don't know if it is a car or a van? wink

It's mot was 3 weeks ago but the only advisory it received was its tyre tread-depth which have been replaced.

This was initially our first opinion but it was "debunked" by the mechanics that inspected the car.

So it is brake related? Only happens when brakes are used?

Strip the brakes and investigate.

It maybe only happening when it gets hot so disk contracting and expanding.

I have this on a rear caliper before, whole car would rumble and vibrate, but only did it when brakes were used and hot.
