If - in the unlikely event - the Lib Dems did win enough votes to get a majority in the house of commons and command a government they would have the total right to implement whatever policies that got them elected into that position, including revoking A50. On any other policy the country would full expect them to deliver on the rest of their manifesto and it would be the opposition who's role it would be to hold them to account.
With respect, I disagree. The referendum was a single issue vote. If (as you say, not likely) there was a LD majority, there could be any number of reasons why people voted for "Jo Swinson's Lib Dems", up to and including her charming personality.Edited by biggles330d on Saturday 7th December 16:24
A multi-issue win cannot overturn a single-issue defeat, in my view. Apples versus oranges and all that.
At the very least the LD's should have said "we can revoke A50 if we get more than 17.4 million votes".
Anyway, it's all academic since the public have turned their backs on the Lib Dems. So a golden opportunity for a centre ground alternative has been wasted.

31% lead for the tories.. we don’t have a presidency so it’s a meaningless figure.
My money is on less seats for the tories, current poling is showing a majority for the conservatives but remind me where we have heard that before. Oh yes, it was 2017 and the conservatives lost their majority. ??
When you're doing as spectacularly badly as the Lib-Dems clearly are excuses however poor can provide solace for some, it's clear many others see the party as an irrelevance hence the polls. My money is on less seats for the tories, current poling is showing a majority for the conservatives but remind me where we have heard that before. I don't think she is thick, unintelligent or unpleasant - just out of her depth

Swinson's blown it.
Backtracking on her main manifesto pledge from the get go of revoking A50 on the first day in No10 isn't going to hack it now, there are three days until the election day, and people won't forget/forgive that, the Lib-Dems could well end up losing seats as opposed to gaining.
The Lib-Dems will only ever make up the numbers of parties representing the electorate making it look respectable, with their choices of leadership they'll never amount to anything other than a party to help another party form a Govt in some form or other.

Be a hoot if Chuka scrapes home and actually becomes leader would that be the definition of ironic
Watching Sam Gyimah going on about Liberal Democrat values was quite a hoot too
The way the Lib Dems are going be ironic if they lost MP's and ended up with more defectors as MP's than original Lib Dem Mp's

Her strategy seems to have been:
Stage 1: Lose all the Remain voters who want to stop Brexit but think you really need a referendum to overturn a referendum and outright cancelling something is just "wrong" but retain the "hard core" cancel at all costs.
Stage 2: back track and lose all the "hard core" vote as well.

Unlike portillo, who has come out of it as decent bloke, chukka will continue down the slimy path of insincerity.

On Brexit: "a key issue is the £50 billion Brexit bonus, we can invest, more money is key, yadda yadda"
On climate change: "yes I think GDP is a poor measure, it's not all about money, need balance, think of the penguins, yadda yadda".
You're right TD, she is a lightweight who doesn't think things through. Her policy to revoke Article 50 was an opportunistic position designed to grab votes; now it has backfired on her.

Inability to string a lie-filled sentence together hasn't derailed Boris' rise.

Jo Swinson advised to "wear lower cut tops" to win over voters.
