A rumbled burglary and 10-11 people arrested, the mind boggles.

Definitely a dark week.

Edit: Just looked up the location, middle of nowhere really, 10 men between 13-30 arrested, I'm no Sherlock but I have my theory.

Very sad, may he RIP

Tragic - poor guy. One of the people arrested is 13 - wtf is going on with our society at the moment, even if not involved even being at the scene at 11.30pm at that age with such people makes you wonder.

Hopefully the murderer will be prosecuted and receive a massive sentence.

10-11 people arrested?

Is there a camp round there or something?

A truly tragic week for the men and women whom put their lives on the line to protect everyone in this country; not even just the good decent law abiding folk - they also put their lives on the line to ensure there is fairness to those whom have been arrested/charged with crimes.

Incredibly sad for all those affected by these shocking and evil acts.

It’s time for schools and the legal system to stop being soft and get some order back into this country.

It’s also time to bring back the death penalty.

I was wondering how long it would take before someone posted this.

We got rid of it for good reasons.
Countries that have it - does it act as a deterrent? Does crime reduce? Do people not kill police officers?

I am pro-punishment (and rehabilitation where possible) but I don't think the state killing people is ever the answer, but I know that doesn't fit with the NP&E culture.

Now a long sentence of breaking rocks on a bleak cold island in the middle of the Atlantic...

There is good evidence that criminals are not put off by threat of punishment, but by the perceived risk of being caught.
The death penalty has no place in a moral society.

Morality is not relevant; efficacy is. If a death penalty is found to be a punishment better suited to the purpose then it should be available. If not, then not.

Punishment should never be based on anger, though.

Quite. Miscarriages of justice happen with flaws through the justice process.

You can (to some extent) financially compensate someone for time spent in prison.
You can't bring them back to life.

What was your previous user name, out of interest? I recognise your posting style but can't quite place it.
