The death penalty has no place in a moral society.
Quite. Miscarriages of justice happen with flaws through the justice process.

You can (to some extent) financially compensate someone for time spent in prison.
You can't bring them back to life.
As Ian Hislop said, its not a deterrent if you kill the wrong people.

Nasty week for more serous injuries. Hopefully they'll get a result for this one.

The death penalty shouldn't be re-introduced.

Morality is not relevant; efficacy is. If a death penalty is found to be a punishment better suited to the purpose then it should be available. If not, then not.

Rovinghawk. For some reason he doesn't want to use his long-term troll account anymore.

Tragic. Condolences to all his family.
Did this not happen in "the good old days"?

The people committing these acts of violence have no morals and thus should be treated as the animals they are.

Too many people have become soft and this is wholly the reason that crime has become so violent and prolific.

It should be introduced where there is NO DOUBT of the person being the perpetrator ie CCTV and DNA etc.

Without a proper deterrent it will get worse because police forces will either shrink as the right people won’t want to join or swell with potentially unsuitable persons into the forces to make up numbers.

I was in the MPS when I was young and you see things that will change your view on the world forever. It never leaves you. You have to know that the people around you will stand up for you when things go wrong - you do not want to be in a situation where you realise your partner is either incapable of defending themselves or scared to - and trust me it happens and no one can sound off stating what they would or wouldn’t do in environments that are life threatening. I never knew it until I’d been in that environment - even then further incidents in different situations can bring out fears or pressures that affect the way you react to a situation. Our emergency services do a fantastic job and do not get the level of support they deserve from either the government or the population.

Once again my thoughts are with the friends, colleagues and families of those affected by these cowardly and evil acts of violence.

Travellers then? Makes sense. Taking your 13 yr old on a burglary night out then murdering a policeman is not what normal working people do. I would bring back the death penalty. Throw them all into a grinder.
Including the 13 year old?

As I said on the Death Penalty Thread it's a cull we're needing!

Wipe out the scum completely and everything is immediately better - Even Brexit might become more attractive if we didn't have to support such scum levels !

I think it's the old pub/restaurant on the cross roads rather than the farm? Maybe it is in the process of being re-vamped, building supplies/equipment on site maybe?

Terrible news and my thoughts are with the friends, colleagues and families of those affected by this utterly evil act of violence.

A modern, forward thinking country doesn't need the death penalty. As a deterrent, it doesn't work, just look at the murder rates in the USofA.

This is scary. Obviously history teaches some people nothing.

Let's hope our enthusiastic new Home Secretary gets tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime.

Not gonna hold my breath though.

I guess the thread was always likely to go along this route.

Not much evidence in criminology to support that as the cause / effect.

10-11 people arrested?

Is there a camp round there or something?
Not sure ... this is a few miles from me, I'm the other side of M4 J12, I got married at the the venue at the top of the road where this occurred - would be a very lonely place to be as a single-crewed copper at nearly midnight on a weeknight.

In answer to your question, there are a lot of travellers causing havoc across the greater Reading area at the moment. It might be nothing to do with them, but the age ranges and numbers of people involved would suggest otherwise.

Evidence? We have had enough of experts and prefer to use our "common sense".

Looks like a stables next to the garden centre. Possibly out after the horses & tack - a lot of easy money to be made that way...
