Well, after several hours telling, delivering, knocking up and generally talking to people in Essex the Tory voters seem to be turning out big time. That doesn't mean they will win but vote certainly doesn't seem down on 2017 and if anything up.

Libs who reckoned they should be in with a chance initially in total disarray and generally totally given up. Not even delivering. Labour have lots of activists about but seem to be canvassing in strong Tory areas where according to our records everyone has already voted. Don't know if this is deliberate or they just don't have much of a plan.

As ever YMMV depending on where in the country you are.
According to the Sunday Times the number of the Labour activists allocated to a seat depended more on if the candidate was from momentum than their chances of winning.

Was a comfortable Tory win for the last two elections in North Cornwall, I’ve just been and voted for the same again. I could never bring myself to be part of Steptoe getting in, and Jo Swinson isn’t remotely an option.
Now looking forward to a very late night watching it all unfold, sky news will be on from 9 to see what nonsense Bercow comes out with!

That explains a bit as I know the candidate in one area I was talking about is Momentum and has very little chance of winning.

Didn't TM win a record amount of votes?
No sure if it was a record, it was the highest since 1992.

Of course they will. Everyone happens to have a Swiss bank account set up ready and waiting rolleyes
Isle of Man more likely.

TBH it’s academic in my mind, Conservative majority on its way.

Done my bit. Very safe Tory seat so not expecting a change locally. It’s going to be an interesting evening/morning that’s for sure.

Irreverent, certainly. Actually I doubt that Frank7 originated it, it was simply a cut'n'paste. The post to which I refer came from the bitterness that some left wingers seem to harbour for alternative views to theirs.
It's not a quality of only one side. THis thread exemplifies at showing that.

Even without offshore accounts it could be a good move to turn shares into cash if it looks like Corbyn is heading for number 10.

If you ca find a buyer of course.

I thought you had lots of successful business friends, and knew lots of people with international experience?

Don't tell me that was a lie too?

One the subject of parliamentary arithmetic. There seems a general assumption that when calculating whether the largest party has a majority you can disregard Sinn Fein seats because they stay out of it. Will that necessarily still apply if Grandpa Semtex is trying to form a government?
Seems Unlikely. Oath/affirmation of allegiance is what they dont like. (I suppose they could cross their fingers, but its not good for their credibility)
Do you really think Corbyn would not change the tradition of swearing allegiance to the Queen if it meant he could be PM?

Why take people on when the economy is about to tank? Remember that Boris' deal is worse than May's deal, it's that bad. Plus we have at least another year, more likely 5 years of brexit uncertainty if the Tories get him.

Madness.
You'll have missed the FTSE rising a few days ago when they believed a Tory majority was imminent.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they'll be a run on the banks if Corbyn wins tonight. But....
I've said multiple times on the Corbyn thread that billions and billions will leave the UK over night if he wins. It's easy to shift billions from your living room these days so you don't even need to wait for the banks opening tomorrow.

To repeat the figures from the Andrew Neil interview; 0.06% of tax payers (31,000 people) account for 12% of all the income tax paid. They are going to be raped financially under a Labour government. Thirty one thousand people could leave the country in a single morning. So by noon tomorrow 12% of our income tax revenues could have evaporated. That's billions and billions and billions that you, me and everyone else will need to make up.

You definitely won't be. I hope they are not £Sterling accounts as that will tank. US$ is what is needed, I'd suggest?

I can move quite a bit abroad if necessary, but annoyingly cash surplus in one of my businesses would be harder to move (I assume). Bricks and mortar are more of a problem though if you really wanted to make sure you were safe.

TBH the devil in me would be amused by a Labour win, just to see the consequences unfold.
Sell your house at a bit under its market value on the condition that you get to rent it for 20 years at a sensible rent. Buy it back for a fraction of what you sold it for in 10 years after JC passes his promised legislation to let you do that.

Swiss bank account hehe Comical.

What will your options be when the bill arrives if Corbyn gets in, like it or lump it?

People with options can exercise choice. Those without...

Most people with a bit of cash have foreign accounts as part of a diversified investment strategy. About 45% of my “liquid” assets are in USD, in US accounts. If there is a sniff of Corbyn being PM, that will be 65% by 10 AM tomorrow. I’ll still have to pay tax on it, but Corbyn’s ability to devalue it will be limited.
