The sad thing from a Scottish point of view was that back in 2006 our electricity needs were largely met by zero carbon nuclear and hydro. They covered base load. Gas could cover the fluctuations.

Since then billions have been spent on wind power. The result is that the need for gas has been locked in. Once the nukes are decommissioned we will be worse of from a CO2 point if view and probably depend on imports from England to keep the lights on. I'm sure the subsidies to wind would have gone a long way towards a replacement nuke power station.

The entire wind fleet and associated network transmission upgrades were arguably a waste of money. Not to mention the embedded CO2 in their construction. And the destruction of much of the landscape scenic value

Just wait until 10-20 years down the road when all those wind turbines will need to be scrapped and replaced

But surely it’s better to do something, even if it is entirely illogical?

It won’t slow down carbon emissions but it will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

It's OK, I'm raising funds for a Turbobloke film. Though it doesn't seem to be going too well so far. frown

Extreme weather: October downpour sees UK's wettest day on record

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-545...

Saturday 3 October was the wettest day for UK-wide rainfall since records began in 1891, Met Office researchers have said.
The downpour followed in the wake of Storm Alex and saw an average of 31.7mm (1.24ins) of rain across the entire UK.
The deluge was enough to exceed the capacity of Loch Ness - the largest lake in the UK by volume - the researchers added.
The previous record wettest day was 29 August 1986....continues

It didn't take long for old McGrath to get his CC bit in. So that's the Beebs cheque for this month then.

What's your take on this video guys.

It is only 8 mins long and was just released this morning on youtube. Is it just scare-mongering nonsense or a realistic interpretation of the current trajectory we are aiming off on? What says the PH masses?

I am wondering why none of the media seemed to have picked up on the irony of having the CV19 lock down, at the same time as the UK was experiencing 3 months of the best late spring, early summer weather this country has ever seen? But if we can get 3 continuous months of superb weather, who is to say we can`t get 3 months of absolutely awful weather now?
Still if we are largely stuck inside again it wont make a much difference any way, (except perhaps for those who live in areas which always get flooded).
Strangely, despite the very wet weather we are getting now, there don't seem to be many, if any reports of areas being flooded, Does this means that authorities have finally started to get their act together when it comes to dealing with large amounts of water, dropping on some parts of the country in a short space of time?

Sorry Kawasicki, I'm a non believer, discussing religion wasn't the intended reason for my post. Would you like to comment on the actual video/subject matter?
Nice pic of the NBR by the way, I'm off there this afternoon wink I was planning for this morning but it has been non-stop accidents so far.

My comment was to highlight the religious inquisition style questioning in the video you linked to.

I’m a denier, too...even though I think humans have some influence on the climate. I’m a denier because I think our influence is weak, and exaggerated. I am sad to see science being corrupted, I don’t agree that offering scary scenarios makes for a convincing argument.

Have fun on the NBR! I was there all last week. What are you driving? Not that it matters that much! It’s fun in the most basic car!

All my cars are basic, in fact anything that was complicated about them I removed wink
Just been notified by a friend that it is pointless today with the amount of circuit closure so maybe next time.

Anyway back to the video; I still hope science per say is clean and free of political and commercial interference at the core level (Educational establishments and the like), it does however appear that climate science has long been corrupted by the IPCC, CRU, EU, MSM etc.

Using the term denier or sceptic is not something I agree with. Every scientist should be sceptical, it is the founding principle about which theory goes on to be proven. Using it to tarnish the 'non-believers' is just another political trick. I'm sure among the very basic principles that guide scientists, as well as many other scholars: respect for the integrity of knowledge, collegiality, honesty, objectivity, and openness are the key requirements. Try finding those character traits in an IPCC report.

More pollution expected from stay-home workers

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54634166

Air pollution in big cities could increase because so many people are working from home, a report says.

Gas burning from boilers is a major source of local pollution, accounting for 21% of total NOx emissions across Greater London, for instance.
Computer modelling predicts that boiler use will rise by 56% this winter due to coronavirus changing work patterns.
The report assumes that workers’ offices will continue to be heated for staff still needed in the workplace.
It also assumes that NOx emissions from cars will stay roughly the same, because although fewer people are going to the office, many are using cars when previously they would have taken buses or trains.
The study from the think tank ECIU warns that the predicted spike in emissions may threaten the UK’s legally binding air quality targets.....continues

Planners 'must prepare' for weather extremes - Met Office

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-546...

The Met Office is launching a tool to help planners prepare for further extremes of rainfall and high temperatures.
It warns that wild weather in the future is likely to place increasing challenges on health, infrastructure and services.
The projections follow a year of UK extremes.
The country experienced its wettest February, a record sunny May and the wettest ever day on 3 October.
This new analysis doesn’t speculate on possible record high temperatures.
Instead, it offers a projection of what researchers call “relatively high extremes” - the sort of weather you’d expect once every 50 years....continues

That's like airports and local authorities 2000-2010 approx believing the senior climate scientist Viner "snow will be a thing of the past / rare and exciting event / children won't know what snow is" then preparing for warm wet winters...and getting caught out with insufficient stocks of salt and grit when some of the coldest and snowiest winters for decades arrived ca 2010 to 2016.

2010
"BAA chief Colin Matthews this morning gave a grovelling apology for ruining the Christmas plans of thousands of Britons as he admitted the airport was caught out by the Big Freeze."

More snow less snow more droughts fewer droughts (because more floods) more hurricanes fewer hurricanes cold is the new warming. Believe, repent and pay more tax.

Dec 2009
"Local councils defended their readiness for the UK's cold snap today as the transport minister, Sadiq Khan said he would be demanding to know whether more could have been done to prevent thousands of motorists being trapped by snowy weather in the south of England"

All of this nonsense due to blind faith in climate voodoo is still online, it's surprising they haven't taken it offline like the Independent did some time ago with their Viner laugh-a-line article on snow being a thing of the past.

Now, with 'extreme weather' catch-all (genuine weather extrema are a global cooling phenomenon) there's weather everywhere every day and if it's a bit hot it's global warming if it's a bit cold it's weather but if it's very cold it's global warming. Obviously.
