So when our Conservative government (and most other governments) continues to make(s) ambitious emissions targets and commitments they’re doing it because they’ve been fooled by “climate myths” or are they part of this socialist plot to destroy a vibrant economy?
Governments do things for all sorts of reasons.

I caught an R4 article yesterday about the flu issues in China and there was a virologist talking about the SARs stuff. He and a couple of others were asked for input by Alan Johnson on the topic and whether the UK should follow the likes of France and Spain in closing air space.

The "experts" said no point. Horses already bolted, not the most effective way to handle the issue etc.

His response? The "experts" were forgetting one thing. The Daily Mail. Imagine if just one person died from suspected SARs. The headlines would be "Incompetent minister kills citizen".

Their motivations are not always scientifically backed.

Do you really think the taxes and rules and regs in this country are going to save the planet? Stretch its lifespan by, what...5yrs? 10yrs? A couple of centuries? Or are they pissing in the wind? That is not to say nothing should be done necessarily. But whatever is needs to be effective.

Howabout preventing climate breakdown and keeping capitalism? Just an idea.

Or is a problem like climate change incompatible with capitalism?
Yeah but you don’t seriously think the climate is breaking down do you? Whatever climate breakdown is supposed to mean anyway.
Try suspending your denial and answer the question. If you're capable of such a feat.

Commenting on the EU Green Deal Physicist Lubos Motl said:
The laws of Nature imply that the climate is never stable and has never been stable.

Will the EU apparatchiks or Gretas sue volcanoes? Oceans? Jupiter and the Moon that contribute to the Milankovi? cycles? The Milky Way? Nature as a whole? Or will they pick some witches who are responsible for the natural phenomena and who will be punished instead? What the hell is going on?

So we learn that the goal of this "Green Deal" is actually the standard Marxist garbage plan to "erase inequalities". The word "gender" appears 9 times in this document that pretends to be about the climate.
Presumably capitalism needs to be overthrown still.

Good job there's a climate politics thread for sixth-form politics dressed up in climate clothes.

^ You raise a valid point regarding gender, why are men taking all the blame, people might think women aren't involved at all. jester

Personally I don’t see climate change as a problem so the question is irrelevant really.

The problem is AGW supporters know the answer, they've just never found the question.

I thought this was appropriate given the extent of the 'Arson Emergency'...

Yet again a sceptic not being very sceptical about sources that confirm their own bias.

He’s moved from quoting wattsupwiththat to passing on fake Facebook posts. Do they never wonder why the sources that agree with them, are all so rubbish. You’re right though, it’s yet another classic example of confirmation bias.

It’s an absolutely fascinating thread. It reminds me of a Louis Theroux documentary about strange subcultures or cults or a film about Scientologists where we get to witness the odd beliefs and views of people on the fringes, except here you actually get to interact with them and ask them stuff. hehe

No, but there is a good segment on the Dunning Kruger Effect, you should watch it.

Pointless response, and quite daft. I don't claim to be an expert but have enough commonsense and intelligence to throw unanswerable questions at CC believers.

The media down under are managing to avoid reality, putting the percentage of bushfires caused by arson and other fire-related offences at 1%, yet NSW police say 42% of the fires are man-made from bushfire offences including arson (over 50 instances and counting) while 10% have natural causes with the remainder still under investigation. Apparently capitalism isn't on the wanted list.

Why are you incapable of providing a link?
