No surprise there, its a Labour run council with a Labour mayor.
Apparently they have also ordered 2000 chocolate fireguards for the elderly and have just fitted ashtrays to their fleet of motorcycles. silly

It's all OK

Now they've fast tracked shutting Bristol bridge and Baldwin Street all the traffic is essentially rotating around a city centre ring road

It's named after Italian sailor John Cabot. Originally it was going to be called merchants quarter but apparently that was racist.

They have shut Baldwin Street? FFS. Makes getting to Queen Sq from M32 a pain in the ass as i'll get caught up in the stupid fked up traffic by Temple Meads.

I actually have a meeting with the Mayor in a couple of weeks. Tempted to explain the fk wittery thats going on with the roads

It’s obviously a coincidence that a lot of councils have taken this opportunity to close various roads near city centres....

Although it said "Could" so yer but no but yer, seems all forms of government use the Vicky pollard approach.

I make the point in every thread of this nature and to date I’ve always been right.

City’s in the UK aren’t going to ban diesels ( or any other car for that matter)

There will be the odd road but essentially it’s virtue signalling.

A big headline “ Look at us, we are forward thinking “

But it will not happen.

End of .

Hope your correct, but whilst a ban is dictatorial making car journeys extremely unpleasant and difficult is merely annoying. I offer Cambridge City and an example of lost customer and money.
Booked in for a music gig in the City, planned to drive in to the park and ride and use that service.
However the park and ride service ended just before the end of the gig so that was out the window.
Drive in and park in car park nearby, nope couldn’t do that because cars not allowed into the City at the time we needed to be there. Only leaves a taxi then, try getting a taxi after a gig! could pre book
but if taxi lets us down!! Gig out of the window with the tickets. Never again will I bother with Cambridge, very disappointing.

Just out of interest, how did central london ULEZ impact employment and /or NOx related illness?
London has a problem - and already a solution - that is peculiar to London.

It's jam packed past capacity, it has a really good public transport infrastructure that is a faster, cheaper and more viable alternative.

This rarely applies in other areas of the UK.

Exactly, Bristol is alright for ‘hub and spoke’ transport but trying to get across the city by public transport can be challenging...

Not an outright ban of the diesel, but enough restrictions on emissions to have the same outcome.

As I said

1. It’s not a ban on diesels
2. It won’t happen
3. It’s been floating around for years

There’s really not much issue with traffic in Birmingham. The drivers are nuts and it moves well

Virtue signalling by the council, something to put on there signs (coming soon)

It never does.

Is the ban on cars driving in a certain times new?
We go to gigs in Cambridge and the only issue we've had is the park and ride ending early.
If we go to the Junction, there's a big multi storey nearby, and we've had no issues, If we go to the Corn Exchange we park in Lion Yard, and the only issue there is the price.
For other events at places like the Portland Arms or Heffers we use an App called Just Park where private home owners and places like hotels put parking spaces up for hourly rent.
We've not come across any issues with cars not being allowed into the town centre though.

Back to Bristol,

Mayor proposes closing loads of random roads in apparent bid to reduce pollution.

At least one has no pollution, and is just a sop to the University so it can have a fancy pedestrianised bit. Because the city is nothing but one giant block of student flats now, which as they don't pay council tax is a weird thing for the council to encourage. Oh well.
