So the reason people have sex, is because it is `fun', which in the case of humans I can agree with. but do animals have sex for fun? If they do not, why do they indulge in it too?
Just because it is fun for humans at least, still does not explain what drives all species to indulge in it, which is why I describe an urge / need to do so, as the prime biological directive. We, and all species would need to be doing it, even if it wasn't fun.
If having sex just because it is fun, is as far as you understand why it happens, that seems to be a shallow reason for doing so.
You,and NickGnome seem to be missing the point, about what it is that drives all species, not just humans to indulge in sex. Are you seriously suggesting that the reason we (humans) do it is for fun? or would you consider there might be a deeper more biological reason behind why most of us at least indulge in it. It could be that some don't want to contemplate that really we are not that different to other species, at least as far as sex is concerned?
Why do you keep using the phrase prime biological directive?

I've stuck it into Google,in quotes, and barely any results. Probably more in last day or two from you than throughout history hehe
Because that is what it actually is. whether it is my way of describing it against someone else's is neither here nor there. It seems however, that some don't like the idea that what we, like all species do, is in fact biologically driven.

I live in a city, and on my own following an absolute sh*thouse of a divorce a couple of years ago. Me and the Cat, that's it. I go out two or three times a week, have a wide circle of male and female friends. I went on holiday last year for a fortnight and ended up shagging pretty much every night so I know I'm not too repulsive.

If it gets to the state where I'm living on Pot Noodles and peeing in the cartons because I can't be arsed to go upstairs, I'll need to re-evaluate.

I don't look forward to being in a home when I'm really ancient however.

If you don't have the attention span to cope with a lengthy thread, with divergent views, the best thing is just to completely ignore it. I do.
One of the best things about PH is the huge range of various views that posters can, and do have on even the most basic of topics. If everyone agreed with everyone else, on every topic, it would soon become quite boring on here.

I find sex fun. I enjoy it so I do it. If it was ste, and she was ugly I'd much rather go play counter strike and live alone.

I wouldn't hold up the Japanese situation as a positive. Quite a high suicide rate. According to Wiki 70% are men.

I remember from my psych rotation, being married is actually a protective factor for men's health (both physical and mental).
If it were 70% female suicide rate there would be an outcry and demands for things to be done

But male, oh well sad individuals who can't find a partner, they were just a drain on society
Since it's November .... don't forget Movember.

https://uk.movember.com/

Mental health is one of the causes. I did it a couple of years ago and raised £325. That's £325 for for great causes effectively doing nothing.

I certainly don't, but lets face it I doubt that many do, Fortunately with great age, ones horizons are fairly likely to reduce down to little more than when the next meal turns up, and getting to a toilet before sh*tting oneself.
Fortunately we all die alone, whether or not we are surrounded by thousands of people who love us to bits, or sitting on our own, in a bedsit., Makes no difference at all how many people are around us when it happens.

Try working in a home for a few weeks, you may change your view on the worth of life even into old age.

You need to find the mainstream scientific term and use that hehe

On the 'why' front. Isn't there proven studies that skin-to-skin contact release various chemicals in the brain and generally good for wellbeing?

Im 39 and now living on my own for the pst few months. First time I’ve been on my own as got together with the ex at college when 18 lived with her since 20.

I don’t hate it to be honest, it is a very different mentality though as we did have set jobs around the house whereas now there all mine! But then i do what needs to be done when i need to do it. Non of this its a Saturday so its laundry day, more like i need clean clothes so lets do laundry!

I am 3 weeks into a new good relationship so it may not be forever that i am living alone which is probably helping with my outlook as thinking at the moment is to enjoy it while i can.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep not screaming in terror like grandad's passengers.

The oldies are still the best.

I've always loved living alone. Pros and cons, but on balance it's a luxury. Living with family is good too for very different reasons. If family goes tits up, having an opportunity to live alone again would be a silver lining and would certainly take the edge off.

One thing being single does do, is make you bloody selfish. My tolerance of other people is low enough as it is and I can feel a serious case of Meldrewitis coming on before very long.

One thing I have found, as I hit 50, is that chatting up much younger Women has become a lot easier, older ones too. Sometimes I even get a result.

You have made it up, it is obvious you have made it up from your first post.

Rejecting your made up nonsense is not the same thing as not accepting that our biology influences our behaviour.

I disagree. Family care and support is paramount when it come to good palliative care. It can be the difference between dying peacefully and pain free in your own bed at home or in A&E full of needles with an enthusiastic junior doctor doing CPR breaking your ribs.
