As per the title please.

Hoping to use our converted primastar day van for a few long weekends away next year so i'm going to need to extend our living space to outdoors.
Don't want to pay more than £500 but Convenience over cost prefered.

Kyham Motordome. We’ve had two now (I broke the first boxedin) and they’re great. My missus is 5’1” and can easily get it put up on her own, i’m 6’4” and can put my hands above my head without touching the roof, so it’s plenty roomy too.

Check out the quick erect system on line first. Not as good as blow up ones I would imagine, but a very good system.

I never 'quite' understand drive away awnings.

We got a 'free' drive away awning with our van and have never used it. It was massive and cumbersome (when packed) so never got taken away....

Instead , we have a 'cheap' four man tent which we set up a dining/ seating area and sleeping arrangements for the kids. Far better value.

I just figured a driveaway tent or even just something that attaches to the van would bridge the gap between inside/outside camping without exposing us to the elements when the vans side door is open?

I've not looked at their later products, but having owned a Khyam Igloo tent since the eighties you could say I'm a fan.
If the erection system is still anywhere similar, it's brilliant. I can get mine out of its bag and literally have it put up in seconds, and am able to crawl in it immediately to get out of the pishing-down. Don't even need to peg it out until it's stopped raining as body weight does the job just fine (maybe prudent to peg first if it's a howling gale though!).
Great kit.

Likewise I am in two minds about drive away awnings. We were camping up near Pickering one wet MayDay BH weekend with our T2bay window which has a non stand alone awning.

On a nearby pitch a T4 rocked up with a drive away awning. We were interested in such a device but we're put off by the exhibition they made of returning to site. It took them longer to position the van so the awning could connect than it takes us to put up our awning from scratch. They got v wet.

Maybe it was a poor design or maybe they were new at the game. Certainly putting markers down so you get your wheels back in the same alignment helps.

Certainly I get fed up of packing up for the day only to find your spot nicked.

This is another good reason why i'm considering getting one. The few camp sites I have stayed in so far have been very relaxed with the rules of where to pitch up and whether they were taken or not. Not much doubt with a tent left on it is there.

Of course If they are a right faff to re-align I could leave any old tent there as marker I suppose.

Someone gave me the tip about once you have set up camp the first time, you put a marker in the ground next to the wheels and tie a piece of tape or string between them so with a bit of guidance you have a decent chance of lining up accurately.

We had a Khyam Motordome Sleeper. To be honest, for a weekend it was just too big. Massive when up, massive when packed away. And heavy. For a weekend where we're planning on staying put, we have a shade type awning (Stitches & Steel V1). For more than a couple of nights where we were planning on driving around during the day, we sold the Khyam and bought a (used twice and so £250ish) Vango Kela. A fair chunk smaller but easier to put up (the Khyam wasn't difficult though!), loads lighter and smaller when packed up and gives us just the right amount of living/storage space (2 adults, 2 kids and dog). Room for table, chairs, pantry unit thing and then lop all the stuff we don't need in the van during the day inside it.

We bought one last summer for our T4 westy (kampa travel pod with air beams) - makes the van considerably more usable. We have two kids (5 and 7) and the extra space is very much needed.

Can be put up in 5 minutes with it being inflatable. In terms of reconnecting, we bought those foam floor tiles you see in Aldi, they are roughly the right width for the bridge area. Just pull the van up to those and the figure 8 strip can be attached in seconds. Any kind of marker would do the job.

Awning is very much recommended if there is more than 2 of you using the van.

Just got our first motorhome and have found porch awnings on our previous Caravans really handy.
I’ve been looking at Outdoor Revolution’s offerings. https://www.towsure.com/outdoor-revolution-turismo...

I'd say they were numpties making an arse of it.

I've got a Vango inflatable driveway awning and it's dead easy to reattach.

2 pegs at the base of each wheel with a bright orange bit of paracord or guy rope give a perfect marker when returning. It just needs doing properly that's all.

I've got both the blow up awning and a much simpler Quechua pop up shelter. The Quechua shelter is awesome, it's a stand alone shelter but buttsnup against my van perfectly so can be used as a sort of driveway awning but the Vango provides so much space.

Mines a Kela 3 Low so is a few years old now but I've been very pleased with it, they still appear to make the Kela but it's up to version 5 now. Worth a look.

Yeah agree, it’s easy to connect back up with a peg at the middle of each wheel and a cador strip.
