I'm sure recently posted that they had successfully claimed on warranty for a snapped crank - I'd love to know which warranty company but can't find the post! I believe Warranty Direct cover it but would be great to know if there are options.

Plenty of threads on this on the Disco3 forum and RRS forum, Warranty Direct definitely cover it and I believe so do Motor Easy.

Have a search on those sites and you will get the answer your looking for.

Also to add to that I was talking to my local LR Indy last week when booing my RRS in for service and he also commented that WD don’t bat an eyelid at a snapped crank repair, this is partly due to LR reducing the cost of a crates engine from £11k to £7k - quite a saving!

Warranty direct provide cover for my 2 mates D4s.

They went for engine, transmission and driveline cover as wishbones etc are cheaper to replace than an engine and we have a good specialist for that.

I would recommend WD as both mates are happy with the cover and cost for 3 years.

Just put down a deposit on a 2011 HSE 8 speed which has invoices for snapped crank rebuild and all belts etc - done by the dealer in the last couple of months. Will still get a warranty though!

My crank snapped 2 months ago on my well looked after 2011 D4.

Warranty Direct inspected the car with a week, authorised the repair 24 hours later, and reimbursed me the £11k within 5 working days of me collecting the car and sending them an invoice.

Motoreasy have confirmed to me in writing that it is covered and offered 3 years for just under £1k which seems a decent insurance policy.

I’ve been put off Discos because of the engine weakness, knowing now that warranties will cover an engine replacement has got me interested again. I guess it would still be a ball ache if the engine did fail but there wouldn’t be an eye watering bill to pay.

What mileage is on your D4 for that £1k warranty? I shall probably buy one eventually.....but I'd have to write it off if the crank turned its self into kit form unless I get a warranty.

I have gone for Motoreasy too - monthly continuous - zero contribution - ALL parts + labour - 2010 108k miles - £65 a month

Was that £1k per year or for 3 years? I was just running some quotes for my 8 yr old D4 with 58k miles and it was 2.5k for 3 yrs.

It was £1,096 for 3 years. I didn’t buy it online, they called me back a day or two after I did the quote.

I did a quote for 1 year yesterday. 6 year old D4 acquired yesterday on 102k Miles.

£859 for 1 year. Guess I’ll wait for that call and see if they can get me anywhere near your deal!

As a general question, what are the servicing requirements for these warranties to cover you and not try to wriggle out of every claim?

You need to service as per manufacturers guidelines and must be a proper garage ie VAT registered.

They asked to see my latest service invoice when I claimed for the engine.

Ok. I like to turn spanners myself but sure o could forsake that for the annual oil change. I think the D4 is annual/ 16k Miles?

ETA: I guess this extends to all thing covered by the warranty. So if the diff explodes next month, they’ll want to see evidence of an oil change on a specified schedule? The 8sp zf box is ‘sealed for life’ according to LR I think?

New to all this warranty stuff, always ran cars that weren’t worth the warranty or didn’t have a rep for chucking big bills

Cheers. I did miss a call today from 01491 number, maybe it was them.
