I watched the game live, but I’m not a fan of City or United, so I have no axe to grind.

United were awarded a corner and a number of missiles (lighters & plastic bottles) were thrown at Fred, the player who went over to take it. Fred is black. As he was bending down to pick up the ball, a coin hit the back of his head. He took a few steps then went down, rubbing the back of his head. The City fans appeared to think he was making a meal out of the incident, which is when the bearded guy at the very front appeared to make monkey noises & gestures at Fred. I mentioned it to my partner at the time. A number of City players then tried to calm their fans.

I’m not surprised the guy was arrested, it looked very clear on TV. He only has himself to blame.

Apparently been suspended from his job now, which is the correct and only course for any responsible employer paying anything other than lip service to both stamping out racism and also ensuring irresponsible employees are not able to tarnish the image of their co-workers.

That’s not true. Suspension from work pending a disciplinary should be treated as a non-punitive measure and only done if there is a risk that the person might influence any investigation into the disciplinary process. We aren’t in the US where sacking people and suspended ding them is an every day occurrence. His employers need to tread carefully.

Although an old link this is a good example of where things can fall down.

Better article here. Key but is in the last few paragraphs around the need for a correct and full investigation, rather than just dismissing out of hand

I presume there is video too? We raise our hands during chanting and any one of 20 odd thousand people in the ground raising their right faster than their left could be caught at an inopportune millisecond appearing to make a certain type of salute. Very Father Ted.

Whatever comrade.

Speculation over the weekend led several construction firms to deny he worked for them. People know who the guy is, and where he's been working, they just didn't know for whom, until now. He will be out of a job.

At no point have I supported him, he can rot in hell for all I care. What i don’t want to see is this racist wker getting a chunk of money for unfair dismissal, as per the link if you’d bothered to read it you ignorant .....

This is ‘t the US and it’s not a TV show. Firing someone requires a legal and contractual process to be adhered to, otherwise they get their job back and possibly a chunk of money too.

Yes, I agree, but given it was not the employer who 'outed' him, they have no alternative but to take steps now, or they face a horrendous PR backlash. Rock and a hard place.

We had five coachloads of Neanderthal Sheffield Utd supporters descend on our local East London pubs a month or so ago when they played West Ham.

A lot of racial abuse to the staff working in our local. Tossers in their Stone Island uniforms.

He had quite a bit of "English and Proud" and Britain First stuff on Facebook as people have been screenshotting and posting it.

Just another knuckle dragging Neanderthal. I dont really follow football but I do think it is a pretty fantastic spectacle and a skilful game, most supported are normal but it does attract a fair proportion of morons, tribal dheads.

Hopefully and example will be made and other cretins may get the idea that it is a very bad idea to do stuff like that, maybe even have a think about why they do it.

I wonder if he does actually think like that or is it just his way of joining in proceedings ?

That's the bit I don't get. 3 of 'em and much of the time facing the 'fans' (use that term lightly).
Christ, it's not even as if they are all bunched together. The 'one in the dock' stands out like a sore thumb. The steward in front of 'fan' would surely have heard him if he made the alleged monkey chants etc?

It's said they have it on vid. Some of the pics are from vid clips and have times on. Others don't.

If he's guilty, sling the book at him.
If he isn't, the lawyers will be lined up and he'll have a field day.

Part of the trouble today is you're guilty before innocent. Life can be fked up in a few seconds.

They’re 100% right to act and I fully expect him to lose his job. All I’m saying is that I hope they act in the right way to avoid him having any escape route. Whilst it may appear to be a draconian punishment if he does lose his job, it’s unfortunately what’s needed at the moment to try to get a lid on some of this growing popularity nationalistic idiocy.

They could well form part of his defence
