We went to a riverside bar this afternoon. All tables taken, DJ playing, very enjoyable.

It seems that you can find normality if you wat to. But just when you start to get used to it, you leave the bubble and it's lockdownsville again.

I find it interesting that glass half empty posters have empty pubs.

Do you think they choose to live in negative neighbourhoods together?

they should just open everything and scrap the social distancing because the rick-averse simply remain at home anyway and the risk-takers might go out if they think they can actually have a decent experience
This is what they should have done from day 1. Leave it down to personal choice and common sense.

Negative neighbourhood ? Nope. An affluent town in the North West here.

People are out and about, just not in the pubs.

A hell of a lot is to do with attitude.

Many on here saying shop staff “Barking orders at them” hand sanitizer “Forced to use” told which way to go in a shop,

No ones done any of that to me,

Attitude!

They tried this and the number of cases and deaths was increasing incredibly quickly because people are morons and inconsiderate.

Do you not remember the two week of Boris saying "work from home if you can, try to keep 2m away from each other", then hardly anyone actually did it before he then had to order businesses to shut down and people to stay at home?!

I don't blame them. Nobody (around here anyway) is going.

The curve was already flattening by people being cautious etc as per the sage reports, the lock down was purely political due to media pressure.

So much for the grand reopening of pubs ...

The ones near to me which are usually busy (especially in the summer months) are deserted.
Even outside.

If this carries on much longer I reckon a few of them will close for good.

Perhaps unsurprisingly nobody appears to be listening to Boris anymore. He'll have a huge job on his hands trying to kick start an economy with little consumer confidence.
Went to my local yesterday for dinner.

Very busy, and well distanced between tables.
Went out for a Sunday lunch today, pre-booked last week as it was a special occasion.

Very busy, and many were out in the large garden at the back or out in the front garden, it was a cracking day though weatherwise so I'm not sure what would have happened if the weather hadn't been so good.

Very well organised and would certainly go back even with the restrictions which didn't really make that much of a difference.

People, businesses, schools, glaciers etc. were way ahead of Boris in doing what they sensibly could in the face of of a potentially serious threat and buffoonary from the UK government.

Its the government that lacks common sense and any sort of coherent plan.

Fine by me, provided the risk takers sign away any right to NHS treatment for CV-19 and instead if diagnosed get rounded up and dumped into a ‘get better on your own or die’ facility to prevent infecting anyone else.

Don’t think that would help retailers though.

Nonsense. The country locked down before Boris made anything compulsory.

The government followed, they did not lead.

Yawn. This is just a repeat of the conversation from 3 months ago when the hand wringers were telling people that going for a drive on their own was reprehensible behaviour.

My answer is the same:

I’d happily do as you suggest. As long as it applies to everyone who drinks, smokes or has anything short of a perfect diet and exercise regime.

I think you view things with unconscious bias. As a non drinker drove past a few pubs today and they looked busy outside so people taking chnace to be social. Flip side town centre seems v quiet

The government have followed popular opinion all the way through this. Tons of polling to see what would be acceptable, U turns where the polling was incorrect.

Sadly the polling sources are largely a bunch of morons who read the Daily Mail, which is why we have ended up in our current situation.

Exactly this.

We should be following the example set by NZ, Japan and Taiwan. instead we're going to end up being America Lite.

I think it depends very much on your age and family situation. 6 years ago I would have been back down the local with all my friends.

Now we all have kids, it’s easier to meet up for a meal/BBQ at each other’s houses , even before Covid 19.

Our local pubs are trying to keep people in groups of 4 and 6, which doesn’t really work with young kids who want to run around like banshees. They also feel wary of the hystericals who might complain if a few tables started mixing, even though in reality we’ve been meeting up anyway.

Had a few beers with friends, but the relaxed atmosphere is gone. It’s going to be tough for pubs.

On the flip side, been out for a couple of lunches and the restaurant side seems less affected. Still missing the atmosphere a bit, but a romantic meal relies much less on the social aspect.

Thanks for the needless personal attack.

I've been working from my office in the middle of Canterbury since late May if you must know.
