2020 Retailers in trouble thread
Discussion
Posted on another topic but I'll post it here too:
If we stay in lockdown until early next year there could be one of two benefits to the government.
1) Any pent up demand helps to soften the blow of Brexit.
2) Any clusterfk of a Brexit shaped slump in the economy in January can be partially/entirely be blamed on the pandemic and "people not doing enough to slow the spread of the virus ".
It also gives Gove more ammo to push BoJo out of a job in the Spring to give the party a clear break in leadership to try and fix/continue with Brexit.

one thing that seems overkill, is not allowing pubs to offer takeaway drinks. This really is stupid because there are loads of community pubs that could do this easily and help they survive another month.

2020 retailers in trouble?
All of them, as of now.
With the notable exception of large foreign online firms able to sell products local shops cannot. No doubt that will be little comfort to the local shop owners, their staff, the local councils who will inevitable suffer from lost business rates, and the national government who will have a smaller tax take, not to mention the landlords who are now facing empty properties in January.
The current Conservative government are deliberately wrecking the economy and it is a complete disgrace.
Why would a government deliberately wreck the economy ?All of them, as of now.

How would that work if his retail outlets to collect from are closed?
They needn’t close.Click and collect is allowed. Argos, Halfords plenty of other stores.
Try it!
"Non-essential retail can remain open for delivery to customers and click-and-collect."

No, but i had assumed people would be out panic buyingsim72 said:
Doesn't seem to be that busy at all. Went to Sainsbury's to get fuel this morning; there was no queue outside the store and the car park was no more than 2/3 full. Pre-lockdown (the first one) you'd have struggled to find a space at that time.
You would hope most people already have their 14 day emergency stock in house to cover if they have to isolate, its just a case now of topping up as per usual. There is no concern over the shops being able to provide essential goods, we've been through that uncertainty and know its not a problem. As with many aspects of this, we are far more experienced now, so the fkwittery of the first lockdown shouldn't be seen.

Ocado app was back to limiting numbers last night. Maybe all the panic buyers are doing it online now?
I can see why - the weather is pretty poor. Queuing to get in the supermarket isn't so bad in the summer, but in the driving rain? Lots of people added Ocado accounts under lockdown and now are opening them up once more?Didn't see any panic buying today at Waitrose. Even the govt guidance is pretty clear that essential retail will stay open and non-essential can do click/collect.

I had the Ocado online queueing, seemingly fine with flour but toilet roll was limited again.... Didn't see any panic buying today at Waitrose. Even the govt guidance is pretty clear that essential retail will stay open and non-essential can do click/collect.

Then the kitchen towel.
Next it’s the grease proof baking paper.
Once that’s all gone there’s nowhere to go but civil unrest.
