Yes, move it out and make some money with the HOP as a tourist attraction.
Could also allow the regional chambers, our councils to use it as well. In addition to the London bubble moving out, allow regional groups to better understand London.

For the state opening of parliament it just reverts to being designated as the HoL.

We should be moving anything public sector that we can out of the most expensive part of the UK. It will cut costs and drive growth.
Indeed, but splitting one building into 2 requires 2 lots of security, 2 sets of house staff, 2 sets of admin, 2 sets of most things. Also, given that the Lords and MPs sit on the same committees and work on the same projects, the 1st class travel bill will be horrendous as they commute up and down all the time. I might start buying shares in whoever runs the East Coast Mainline today!
Let them eat Skype.

With York planning on banning cars, how will the Lords get around? I suggest rickshaws, which could be pulled by whippets.

Personally i'd rather see it scrapped all together.
I wouldn’t go that far but elected certainly
I think it would make sense to have it partly elected, but I'm not sure the hereditory principle was totally without merit - a degree of tradition and continuity etc.

As for relocating the HoL, I would leave it in London, but have certain government departments shifted to a few northern cities.

The government does (via LNER which they operate). Aha, maybe that's the reason they suggested York!

You're not getting HS2, but have the House of Lords instead. hehe

Oh yes saw that was taking shape.
There's a lot going on around the West Side, within the wall. Rougier Street, Tanner Row area too.

Bearing in mind that the Lords have just voted against the Withdrawal bill because they want the Gov. to physically write a letter to all 3 million or so EU nationals confirming that they have settled status, rather than doing it digitally. You can only assume they have never owned a printer... How the juddering fk are they going to cope with moving if they do not even realise that people can print out a digital confirmation.

Nonsense, England has a perfectly good tradition of sedan chairs. Here is Jacob Rees-Mogg pictured earlier on his way to work:

I do wonder if it is perhaps a subterfuge to get the Lords to support HS2. Certainly there is some reason other than the relatively obvious ones. Perhaps they want HS2A to include an East Coast upgrade to York. I can see why they might want an alternative seat outside London, usable by the Commons too, given various potential threats - not just terrorist but sea level flooding, atmospheric pollution, traffic etc. Although York is hardly immune to flooding! York just isn't big enough to absorb an institution as big as this, with not just the immediate office staff, but all the other support industries. Housing is already at a premium, both in the upper markets and the lower pay grades. If they choose Birmingham then they might as well not bother moving at all, and Manchester (Salford) already has the Quays. Leeds would be a better bet, they could re-purpose the NHS Kremlin there.

Perhaps it is doing a Channel 4, and "moving". That is to say, only moving a fraction of the infrastructure in order to get rid of people who really don't want to do the job anyway, just roll up for the lols and the bar. Which, if so, might be no bad thing. That would perhaps encourage peers who have a genuine interest and motivation to do a decent job.

My suggestion would be Blackpool, plenty of hotels and B&Bs and the additional advantage not being on a main railway line would mean having to change coming from most places, don't want to make it to easy for them,
A few days in Blackpool would have them wanting to give up their peerage so as to not to have to return. hehe

As Brum is more or less the centre of the country could you please expand on your reasoning?

Birmingham is nowhere near the centre of the country.

Depends if you're talking in terms of UK or England.
York all the way anyway so shut up the lot of you about bloody Birmingham!
Blackpool was an interesting suggestion though, which would definitely clear out the deadwood.
