It's somewhat ironic that in spite of the constant SNP mantra of having a mandate, one of their own is brought down by trying to secure a man date.
This deserves more recognition.

bow

plenty of scope for refinement too....
It might improve with age. But then MacKay wouldn’t like it.

bachelor field-marshal montgomery , it was said, all through his adult life liked, preferred even, the company
of teenage boys, people thought it unusual, his army colleagues thought it unusual, MI5 certainly thought it
unusual and tried their damndest to find anything inappropriate in these friendships, which they didn't.

the only people who didn't think it unusual were bernard and the young men.

i just thought i'd share that, one can have smoke without fire.
A nice window into the mind of an average SNP supporter?

Sufficient numbers to get 170 or so of them an MSP/MP/FM salary, but that's nowhere near the same thing as voting for independence.
I agree. But what it does is perpetuate the noise.

It's utterly bizarre that those who don't want independence (assuming that is a majority) don't get sick enough of the whining to vote against the SNP when it comes to elections.

Maybe they do but their vote is split? Or maybe the way the voting system works means they are concentrated (or not) sub-optimally.

I guess at the end of the day they are something of an irrelevance at the UK level. But it would be useful (if we want to try and get rid of divisiveness - probably impossible in the circumstances) to get some proper closure on it.

That's exactly it. More people vote for non SNP candidates than do for the SNP, but those votes are split across several parties. So we end up with the SNP, which gives the UK the impression we're all frothing at the mouth separatists.

It would be comical if the SNP got slaughtered in the Scottish elections, losing control. That would put them in the strange lacuna of being the largest Scottish party in Westminster, with no control over the UK, and no control of Scotland. Basically like the political version of an appendix. Can be incredibly annoying and dangerous when plugged in, but not missed if you take it out.

They lost control at the last election, but they try to keep that quiet. They are a minority at Holyrood.

It is but even messaging shows he is a total wrong 'un. Your deflection guff about Monty don't change that at all.

Condemn it or be accused of being an apologist for pedophilic behaviour.

This guy needs shooting.
The only "guff" here is your hysterical accusation of "pedophilic (sic) behaviour". Interaction with a 16 year old is most definitely not paedophilic, and probably not hebephilic either in this case as the young man is over the age of sexual consent.

Grossly distasteful, yes, but paedophilic it most certainly isn't and the assertion does nothing but show your ignorance.

Ignorance or not, you can't condone the behaviour. Not fit for any position of power, what would happen to a teacher in the same instance? A slap on the wrists?

He deserves to be removed from government and hold no job where he's in regular contact with children. I'd be wanting a warrant for his computer as well.

As I said in the dedicated thread - the transcripts of his communications with the boy (and further revelations today) shows that MacKay was making a big deal of his political status to attempt to impress the people he was contacting, as well as inviting them along to political jollies and party activities. That is an unequivocal abuse of power. His party think he crossed a line. Their supporters should get with the plan.

I quite specifically stated that his behaviour was grossly distasteful, and that is why he resigned his post (well, he resigned because he got caught). My preference would be for him to resign his seat as well, but perhaps that's too much to expect from a politician these days.

This gets more and more rotten.

Attempts to silence the media about this...
all par for the course with this rotten party.

Stronger for Scotland though, just keep waving those flags and banners and don’t dare question the narrative.

Well we learn something everyday. Did they find little love letters to 16 year olds saying he thought them cute?

Not disagreeing but just as an observation Montgomery had a wife (who died early), and a son. Not that that means anything pace Philip Schofield, but he was also pretty much a homophobe at least politically: on the legalisation of homosexuality It was a “charter for buggery. This sort of thing may be tolerated by the French, but we're British – thank God".
