I do feel a little for James Cleverley. I liked him and thought he did a good job in the times he was roiled out for TV

Poor old Hezza getting a tough time from emboldened members of this site has a certain irony to it
Someone should write a strongly worded letter to his secretary.
hmmmm now how would somebody who has been here 4 months know about that?

returning knobjocky or mcstalker old post sniffer?
What’s it all about ?
Ages ago someone who I can't remember threatened to write to hezza, s P. A. about another member of ph. It was most amusing, but I would not expect someone who has officially only been a mamber for four months to know of it.
Follow a different path of thought ref your suggestion as to Catweasle’s prior involvement in these wonderful boards wink

He's one of the most appalling apologists I can recall seeing being wheeled out during the election campaign.

Who else is fed up with seemingly normal TV reporters who turn and bawl across the street to some politician a stupid question that is never going to get an answer in a million years?

What good is this doing for anyone involved?
It’s a demeaning spectacle for all concerned imho.

Anyway, carry on ...
Me! It seems so bloody pointless.

About on a par with some journalist standing outside, No10, The Home Office, Treasury, New Scotland Yard, EU HQ, etc. etc. with a Camera crew at 10pm to deliver a comment to someone in the studio.

It could be why BBC News can shed 450 staff and viewers are unable to spot a difference.

You wouldn't mind if they actually expected to get an answer and were not just trying to influence viewers. More like bushwhackers than journalists.

Amanda Solloway MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, BEIS as of this reshuffle.

This is her husband, Robert Solloway, banned from being a Director of a company for 11 years just last summer. The charge sheet etc. is interesting reading indeed

Ask for misfits and weirdos, get misfits and weirdos...

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/feb/16/t...

“One way to get around the problems of unplanned pregnancies, creating a permanent underclass would be to legally enforce universal uptake of long-term contraception and the onset of puberty,” he wrote. “Vaccination laws give it a precedent, I would argue.”

In another post circulated on Twitter, Sabisky claimed black Americans had a lower average IQ than white people and were more likely to have an “intellectual disability”. He also tweeted: “I am always straight up in saying that women’s sport is more comparable to the Paralympics than it is to men’s.”

First off this is not an apologia. I know nothing of the guy and his predilection for throwing stuff out there is going to be probably rewarded with the likely obvious outcome: he’ll be gone by lunchtime.

However.

The idea of universal enforced contraception until a certain age is an out there idea but it should be noted that one of the key determinants of future path outcomes are unplanned pregnancies. They shaft educational opportunities. They place an onerous financial and time responsibility on the parent (which usually is a singleton). They statistically do not provide good outcomes for the children.
In short It’s a bonkers idea but it also puts a finger on a real issue.

Whether or not we like it African American IQ trails other group measurements. Whites trail Asian IQs generally.
It may well be that IQ is a stupid metric. Certainly there are plenty of people who say so. However the differential is out there.
There is likely to be a sociological (as opposed to genetic) reason for this which doesn’t take a lot of insight to get to.

As a measurable statistic there are more African Americans classified as having an intellectual disability as a proportion of population. Why? Probably see above.

That woman’s Olympics/Paralympic comment is just a fking idiotic point of view. I’m not going to touch on that.

His comments might be controversial but at the same time we have others in government over the years who have actually passed legislation to allow children to undergo life changing and irreversible gender surgery for supposed body dysmorphia many of whom come to regret it later in life. Even the Labour leadership election seems to be dominated by such bizarre ideas.

To those of us of a more conservative persuasion it is these progressive liberals who are the nut jobs and weirdos.

We have stringent checks on someone wishing to adopt a child but none at all on those having one naturally. We will even subsidise the choice if they are unable to afford to provide for them.

Preventing teenage pregnancies doesn't sound too much of an overreach in resetting that balance a little.

As you post implies though anyone voicing anything remotely controversial these days in public life will be relentlessly hounded. Perhaps Cummings should have advertised for "misfits and weirdos who never post on social media".

It’s a nice example of topsy turvy woke Britain. An idea of forced contraception that might actually improve a child’s life prospects is deemed abhorrent and beyond the pale. While ideas that have proved to be detrimental to many children’s lives causing them permanent physical and mental illness is lauded as been progressive and to be protected at all costs.

I would say it is those mentioned in the article that refuse to sit next to him or talk to him in these meetings that are the real fascists and the problems that need removing.

Remember diversity is our strength and that goes for opinions as well.

I think these are good points.

The challenge should not be against the data necessarily, but what we read into it and what we intend to do with it (whether that's binning a metric that's simply rubbish...or adjusting policy to attempt to redress if that is seen as a priority outcome).

I do think Twitter was probably invented by someone who believed utterly in Darwinism.

'Diversity' concept is working on three levels.

1. The advantages of outlier thinkers and strangers in bonded groups force better decisions [studies show].
2. The rational and humanist view that no matter what your colour, sex, ableness etc you shouldn't be prevented from having a fair crack of the whip [equality]
3. The promotion that diversity means you should include people of colour/sex/ableness etc despite merit or you are being unjust. [equity]

1. and 2. should be supported wholeheartedly, 3. is using 1 & 2 as a Trojan horse.
