Why do cyclists try to undertake left turning trucks ?

Yep, I really don't see how that's the cyclists fault - the van driver seemed to just forget he'd passed the cyclist!Lucky the cyclist is OK, apparently, that could have been all over...

They made the mistake of assuming the driver would check their mirror. It's unfortunate and yes, it's probably the fault of the truck driver, but being right isn't much use when you're injured/dead.Never assume (as a cyclist) that a driver is going to make all the required checks periodically / before turning. Overtaking on the inside on the approach to a left turn is always somewhat of a risk.
A few more errors from the driver too ... late signal, approach speed too high, and turns into the left-hander on the wrong side of the road. Slaps of a last minute turn decision to me.

How was this a cyclist overtaking on the left? The van had just passed him and then turned straight across in front of him!
What was the guy on the bike supposed to do? Bunnyhop the van?
The cyclist is going faster than the truck approaching the left turn. If he's assuming the van is continuing forward, it's the beginning of an overtake. What was the guy on the bike supposed to do? Bunnyhop the van?
If they weren't intending to overtake, they should stay back far enough from the truck to see the turn signals (which as I said, are a bit late).

Anyone that thinks the cyclist was trying to undertake the Tesco van should hand their driving license in.

If that was aimed at me I just want to draw your attention to a previous post where I said it was the drivers fault.Twitter link for longer version of the vid that removes the victim blaming - https://twitter.com/Broadsword999/status/122685380...

I still think the cyclist made a mistake ... if they were sufficiently behind the truck (which they should be if not overtaking), they would have seen the late signal and had time to act.
Also, "undertaking" is not a thing. It's "overtaking on the inside".

The van overtakes him then slows down, basically then matching the bikes pace then turns across him. There's NOTHING you can do with a total fking moron like that at the wheel. The indication is beyond late, its pointless.I still think the cyclist made a mistake ... if they were sufficiently behind the truck (which they should be if not overtaking), they would have seen the late signal and had time to act.

Cyclist has absolutely no time at all to respond the late indicator - presumably the van driver was lost.
I cant believe anyone would blame the cyclist for that. Thread title is dumb.
Agree 100%, that cyclist was entirely blameless for that, the van just indicated and went, I can't imagine the cyclist even had time to brake. I cant believe anyone would blame the cyclist for that. Thread title is dumb.

Cyclist was at no time sufficiently behind the truck to react, check the link I posted and you'll see they had <2 seconds.
