Duty-free post brexit
Discussion
what are peoples expectation of this? I've read various contridictions from different news sites - mostly from around the time the conservatives were trying to get public support so perhaps were fishing with the idea, now they have full control they obviously can do what they want in negociations
I buy a lot of spirits and cigarettes and also travel quite a bit so it'd benefit me lots if it was re-introduced

The only thing that will change with duty free is that the EU will be treated like the rest of the world.

We are quickly moving towards parity with any country, the EU should be no different.
So, https://www.gov.uk/duty-free-goods/arrivals-from-o...
is likely to be the limit from anywhere - and, of course, you could also pay the applicable duty to bring bucket loads in from the near Continent.

It was great when the nice bloke at the duty free in Amsterdam (AMS for those annoyed by IATA codes) told me that I could take something like 30 litres of spirits and 120 litres of wine as you could get some decent vodkas for far cheaper than here on the UK.
But now we're going to be stuck with a single bottle.
They should just say X litres of whatever you like as most countries do instead of breaking it down. Alas I don't expect this to change as the govt gets too much tax out of it.

I believe so, but I'm not a wine drinker.

What did the airline say when you showed up at the gate with quarter of a tonne of booze? Well it wasn't Ryanair.
I chickened out and only bought a paltry 4 bottles for under 100 Euro that would have cost over £100 in the UK.
BTW KLM didn't even bother looking twice at it.

A year or two back Schiphol was doing some really sturdy zip topped "bag for life" type bags free when you spend more than a certain amount. Big enough for about 6 bottles. They're great as the they're clearly marked up as Duty Free, and most airlines cabin bag limit is excluding duty free so you can take extra hand luggage without ever being queried BTW KLM didn't even bother looking twice at it.

The Fosters or Carling of wine.
If you actually want wines that are nice, most of the worlds finest wines are still produced in Italy, France and Spain.
