Whilst waiting for something bigger to go wrong, I have been trying unsuccessfully to reduce the wind noise on my Mk1 Tuscan.

With the roof on, at 60+ there is wind noise like a kid tying to learn to whistle (all wind and no note !). If seems to come from the leading edge of the drivers window.

As far as I can tell the door seals are good (and new), and I have been plugging various bits of the body work / glass with bluetac all morning but with no improvement !

Anyone got a little list of things to try ?

And yes I know I should be driving it with the roof off - but that doesn't work so well on the motorway in the rain.

(it isn't the rear screen - that makes its own noise that I can get rid off with very careful seating of the rear screen on the seals and some silicon gel!)

Thanks

Ian

Have you really closely inspected the 'gap' at the top edge of the window to the seal on the targa roof? Is the glass really compressing the seal?
The "close" position of the window can be adjusted by a 10mm 'stop' bolt in the window lift rack, behind the door card.

What is the "degree of contact" between the top corner/leading edge of the glass and the seal? Can you confirm that the glass, when it is lifted is going BEHIND the tang on the A-pillar? This 'tang' guides the glass onto and slightly compresses the door aperture seal. The tang is just a shaped bit of metal with a coating....which can be bent to improve the glass/seal contact.

Couple of things to check and low cost options to remedy.

Can anyone supply a picture of the tang?

Malcolm, if you look at the 'gap' at the top of the hockey-stick moulding(s) and door seal, which are at the side of the windscreen, you should be able to see a flat metal protrusion which has a plastic/rubberised coating on it.

The metal is about 19mm wide and ~ 1mm thick. IIRC, it is secured to the A-pillar by the top cross-headed screw which retains the hockey stick to the A-pillar.

It's obvious if you use a torch and look at said gap between trailing edge of hockey stick and door seal.

Check that as the window gets near to the top it is the correct side of the metal guide that holds it to the seal side, if it is correct, bending the tab slightly can increase pressure on the glass to the seal.

Thanks for the suggestions - I have a play with it next week and I’ll try to post some pictures at the same time

Brief update... took door panel off, found that the rubber thingy that sits in the metal guide for the glass had fallen out - put it back. Adjusted the bolt so ensure the window pushes hard on the seals on the roof. Bent the “tang” in a bit to ensure the glass was pushed against the edge when fully closed. Shoved some fish tank tube inside the seals, making a notable difference at the bit where the corner at the top front of the door. With all that done the noise has gone smile thanks for all the advise!
