Caroline Flack

Very much in agreement here.
It's tragic that she's killed herself, but I take one look at her Instagram account and all it screams is "LOOK AT MY AMAZINGLY GLAMOROUS LIFE!"
In every photo she is on a red carpet, at some premiere, on an amazing holiday, doing the "you've-caught me-laughing-as-if -this-is-au-naturel-but-in-reality-we-took-twenty-versions-of-it-to-get-my-best-angle".
It's all so FAKE. She was front woman of a programme that exists purely to make shallow, vacuous people famous. It promotes the cult of celebrity - young girls wanting to be 'a celebrity' as a career ambition, which has become a thing since the whole advent of 'reality' TV. It totally boils my piss. We live in a society where young people - girls especially - are suffering all sorts of mental health challenges, anxiety, eating disorders, all driven by this idea of what is acceptable, all driven by social media, with people like Caroline Flack front and centre of it. Did she really care about the place she was playing in that whole stupid game? I don't think she did.
I've seen all manner of hand-wringers on my Facebook posting if you can be anything in this world, be kind memes attributed to Ms Flack, which is all a very nice sentiment and all that, but I'm also sat there going "whoa .... how about not basing your entire existence on something so false, and smacking your sleeping boyfriend round the head with a lamp so much that he's had to all the Police allegedly in fear of his life.
Lots of shouts of 'her management/ITV should have protected her'. Really? She was a grown woman of 40 years of age, how about she showed some personal responsibility.
Did she smack the boyfriend about? Seems certain.
Should she have been prosecuted? Yes.
Would it have been the end of the world if found guilty? No.
People do far, far worse things in their lives and get on with them. She would have lost the Love Island gig as obviously a convicted perp of DV as a host isn't great for advertisers, but so what? She could have styled it out. Lay low for a while, reinvent yourself, as many badly-behaved celebrities have done in the past.
Everyone jumping on the bandwagon of bashing the media for hounding her over this really needs to remember that she was a keen and active player in the whole charade.
For balance: I lived with a girlfriend with mental health issues like this for 3 years. Despite her privileged upbringing and outwardly 'nice' life she was constantly jealous of other people, thinking everyone's life was better. It is unremittingly tiring to put up with. I stood by her through a lot of trying times, but the day she jogged on out of my life was a relief for my mental health. I've heard all the BS round this before and bored of it. If you feel the need to go through a boyfirend's phone whilst he is sleeping then he's probably not the bloke for you. Binbag him and find someone else, don't assault him so that you end up in court. Simple, eh?
This in spades. It's tragic that she's killed herself, but I take one look at her Instagram account and all it screams is "LOOK AT MY AMAZINGLY GLAMOROUS LIFE!"

While it's tragic that anyone takes - or loses - their life the press coverage is just beyond belief - Sky News app this morning SIX articles on the main page concerning someone that until a few days ago hardly anyone had heard of; someone promoting the awful insta-lifestyle so prevalent with the vacuous today. (As an aside - I genuinely can't think of a worse bunch of people to be stuck in the company of than the contestants on that show.)
Danny Cipriani, the Gloucester stand off, has been in a bit of a state over this.

R2 had a decent debate on this yesterday. I'll admit I can't actually say I knew who CF was. Yes I'd heard of the name- but I couldn't have told you anything about her- other than hearing she wasn't hosting the love Island thing.
They interviewed some girl called tyne lexy- (WTF ??) who again, her achievement in life seems to be to getting excited about weight loss and standing on a beach. quite what her talent is- goodness knows. I guess her current talent will fade with ageing I'm sure.
and a lad who 7 yrs ago was on "take me out". seems like he must have been a nerd- as oppose to some buff handsome type- guess what 7 yrs on he's still whinging about people taking the P out of him.
But surely we are living in a damaging world, where people now can think they can earn a living by being a blogger/an instgramer/being famous for being famous with nothing behind them. Of course people will mercilessly cut them down. and its going to hurt- you put yourself up there and the first rule of being famous is that people will knock you down.
Funnily enough I dated a girl who worked for Ch4 on the big brother show. she worked on perhaps their most famous one- the one with jade goody in it. She resigned because it was such vacuous mind numbing banal junk. But of course this seems to be what we're producing for the mass of society now.

That was actually a seminal moment in TV and the whole reality show culture - prior to that, Big Brother was genuinely fascinating - a dozen strangers in a house with no outside contact and how those personality types interacted and developed. But Jade Goody made it very apparent to the wider world that talent and skill were no obstruction to fame and magazine deals. The rest is history.

R v Brown was nearly 30 years ago. You can't consent to GBH (or ABH)edit to avoid pedantry - you can but it doesn't prevent your attackers from being prosecuted.

In the 90s people seemed to accept they were working class , they'd live in 2 up 2 down houses , have one holiday abroad a year , go on the lash Friday Saturday night but they seemed happy to accept that's was there lot. They interviewed some girl called tyne lexy- (WTF ??) who again, her achievement in life seems to be to getting excited about weight loss and standing on a beach. quite what her talent is- goodness knows. Now it seems nobody will accept anything less than being a celebrity and they don't even seem happy in there social media fake fairy tale world.

There is a young girl in my office (20s) who does the photocopying and admin. She probably earns 25k. She moved team a while ago and I hadn't seen her for s few months . I saw her the other day, it looks like she's had Botox and a skin lift or something. Out of interest I googled her name and she's on Instagram blogging about her baller lifestyle and posing in restaurants in Brentwood whilst posting inspirational quotes about living your best life etc. Now it seems nobody will accept anything less than being a celebrity and they don't even seem happy in there social media fake fairy tale world.
She was a naturally attractive girl before but she now looks like Michael Jackson. By the looks of things she has paid for a load of Indian lads to follow her on Instagram and like her posts. I'm not sure what she is hoping to achieve. Might be escapism from the humdrum existance during the week or she might be trying to get on love island or one of these awful programs. I'm not entirely sure. It's all very confusing to me.

Working for social mobility and the aspiration for celebrity are two completely different things and there's no evidence at all this is a working-class thing. The middle classes are as guilty of the celebrity bullst as anybody else. Now it seems nobody will accept anything less than being a celebrity and they don't even seem happy in *there* social media fake fairy tale world.
oh and it's *THEIR*, not *THERE*.

It's sad but many of these girls just ruin their natural looks. Some take it to extremes and as you say start looking like Michael Jackson. She was a naturally attractive girl before but she now looks like Michael Jackson. I may be wrong but I think many use social media to try and make themselves feel better. Using it as a fake life to hide from the reality of how they actually feel about themselves.
Many who would be classified as stunning hate themselves.
Ms Flack's social media is a prime example of someone with massive issues but looks to have it all.

Simple, eh?

The follow up 'be kind' brigade are also fake imho because what they're actually saying is 'be gentle as I'm fragile'. In case it has passed the social media generation by, public social media is not a place for fragile, empty, weak personalities that survive on gratuitous, vacuous fake platitudes from other fragile vacuous personalities or indeed complete strangers.
RIP

But, a lot of "celebrities" live a bubble, which does not reflect reality. Sadly, they believe it is reality.
As I have said many time before at times like this, Darwin had it right, survival of the fittest, she had her time in the limelight, messed up, and could not handle the aftermath, sorry love but you do not have the kahunas for the fight.
We are more tolerant of so many things now, disability, race etc, but that exposes people like this even more for being shallow, insipid and so far away from reality they cannot handle even the simplest things like a serious mistake you make in your life.
There are real life issues thousands of people live with every day who do not kill themselves, dealing with your kid dying of cancer, your sibling being a rapist or murderer, your father being a paedophile who never touched you, your mother being a drug addict etc. These are things some people deal with without a struggle, yet this daft bint beat up her fella and then topped herself before taking it on the chin.
What staggers me about her and this show is that a few of them have suffered immensely after being on there, yet it carries on being shown, it is clearly acidic in what it does to people, the people it attracts, so stop watching it, make them close it down, it is you the viewer that minutely participate in their plight at a tiny level.
