After gaining some additional christmas timber, I am considering picking up a road bike and smart turbo trainer of some description to burn off the blubber.

From initial research the apps seem way too serious for my needs, I just want some nice visuals while I pedal away for an hour 2-3 times a week, I don't want any community features or know what my power I am generating and for how long.

I guess what I am asking is there either a playstation version? or a numpty/amateur mode for some of the apps? if not I may as well scrap this idea, book two weeks in india, and go for the dysentery diet instead.

What apps have you looked at? Zwift is the obvious one, and is only as serious as you want to be. There are casual group rides and more serious races.

There's plenty of YouTube videos for you to cycle along to for free, e.g. Indoor Cycling Videos

I looked at Zwift, Supperfest, BKool, and Trainerroad, they all seemed to offer a wealth of features that I don't need. For example I am an anti social bugger at the best of times, so have no desire for any community features.

So don’t use them / switch off chat?

Or use Zwift offline - you wont even see any other riders on the road!

Didn't realise you could do that, might try it for the trial period and see how I get on, Just spotted a Cannondale road bike and Turbo trainer for £400 on facebook down the road from me that I am going to see tomorrow.

Zwift is great for burning some time pedalling away indoors. You dont need to interact with people conversation wise but can ride along with people, or just match your previous times for sections if your feeling a bit self competitive.
Have a go on the free trial.

FulGaz for me. Looks pretty enough and interacts with my Direto better than Rouvy. I don't really pay attention to power, times etc, I just want a bit of exercise when the weather's grim.

Fulgaz for me too. I like to reminisce while virtually riding as calobra, cap formentor etc 😄 there is enough variety in there to keep me coming back to it. I found Zwift really dull. Haven’t used sufferfest so cant comment on that.
