End of lease inspection / collection story
Manheim were booked in but could not say the exact time.
Guy phoned the day before and said he estimated he would be will be with me at 1pm-ish.
He arrived 1:15pm, asked for the keys and service book. He spent approx. 30 minutes in and out of the car, taking photos.

I was expecting something because a few weeks before I misjudged the height of a kerb (and the speed I hit it) and had a large dent in the rim. It was bad enough to cause a bulge in the tyre, luckily I had kept the old tyres with 4 mm on from when I changed them 6 months before.

He knocked on the door, and said there is a couple of things he wanted to show me.
First was the rim damage, he showed me with his ruler that it was exactly 50mm so no charge!, because there was no other damage on the rim.
Next was - on the drivers front wheel there was corrosion, a common fault with diamond cut alloys. He explained it wasn't my fault but corrosion is not fair wear and tear. So would put it down as £45.
He also mentioned a small dent and a stone chip in the windscreen - but neither chargeable

Because the total was less than £150 there was nothing to pay.

Moral of the story is if there is any corrosion on your wheels - complain to the manufacturer and get them replaced before returning.

Hitachi Finance End of Lease Excess Mileage Calculations.

My last lease I opted for 10k per year.
It was delivered with 77 miles on the 10th January 2018
After 2 years it was picked up with 20,065 miles on the 9th January 2020

After returning it I received 2 invoices.
1 for excess mileage, they were expecting 20,050 miles because it was "returned a day early" (20,077 minus 27 miles)
(They also had got the final mileage wrong by an extra 200 miles)
1 credit for 1 days lease for "returning it 1 day early".

The person calculating it thought the 10th January 2018 to 9th January 2020 was 1 day short of 2 years. I would say it is exactly 2 years.
I phoned, after a week they said there's nothing to pay. I received an invoice to negate it all.

I had Manheim and they were very fair.

Tyre repair foam was missing, forgotten to replace after puncture - £45

Small dent in boot lid with break in paint - £90

It had done 85k+ miles in 3 years so had some stone chips on the front, I had gone round with touch up paint the weekend before so it did look better and had some scratches/scuffs removed (£50 from local guy) so it was in decent condition.

Nissan Leaf through Nissan Finance.

Hi

Car going back first week in April. Currently with leaseplan, any ideas how much they would charge for this? Small dent on boot lid, scuff on bumper above and below light, and scratch on boot.

None of them done by me! Just inconsiderate people over the 2 years

I’ve been quoted £260 for all three repairs by local people. Is it worth doing? Or waiting for leaseplan to charge me?

Here's a link to the Mercedes Vehicle Return Standard's. Useful if you want to know what is/isn't deemed as fair wear and tear:

Does anyone have any experience of a PSA vehicle (Freedom2Move Finance) going back via Manheim?

Our vehicle goes back soon and I think it’s in excellent condition, but any other first hand experiences are useful.

TIA

Judging by threads on MoneySavingExpert forum, PSA is not very good and like to charge for things. There was quite a few stories on the forum.

Hi all,

I'm about to take possession of my first lease; I've been offered free delivery, or collection with free full tank of fuel. Something in me is making me a bit wary of it being driven and am leaning toward collection, but I know that there are unlikely to be any issues. After all, it is the livelihood of the delivery driver, so they are unlikely to do anything to cause damage, etc.

Any first-hand experience or advice either way? For reference, the collection point is c.200 miles from me and costs beyond my time is fairly minimal at c.£50 train fare.

Cheers

I’ve had both trailer delivery and driven (c50 miles). Both were fine to be honest, just thoroughly inspect the car when it arrives and ensure any damage and the current mileage is recorded.

Many delivery drivers have to wash the car prior to drop off - if driven 200 miles it may be dirty, but you may want to request they don’t wash it as they usually put it through a mechanical car wash and it’s not good for the paint.

Why would you think the driver's would do anything?
After all it would take some serious bad driving to any real damage to a car in 100-150 miles or so

What make of car ? just out of curiosity. Where can you collect it from? Is it from a main dealership ? Reasons i ask is 3 years ago i had my first lease a

very nice Scirocco R [280bhp]. Best price and spec i wanted was from a VW dealership in Slough. I am "up north' near

Manchester so my initial option was to have driven delivery to home or work. I didn't fancy someone ragging the arse of the car in the first 200 miles so i

enquired about collection. This was no problem, in fact it was a very enjoyable day.. I took the train down to Slough, met the lease manager at the

showroom, and basically had the full experience of collecting "a new car" Had a very pleasant drive home stopping off at Kenilworth, to meet and take my

son out for lunch....................so my advice...... yes.......yes go and collect the car, and make a nice day out of it.

It's nothing particularly fancy, a Kia Sportage (that will in all likelihood be used by my wife more often than me). Yes, main dealer supplied - I'm yet to find out exactly which branch but all a similar distance from home.

I think deep down I just want a day out and the opportunity to have that new car day feeling, and am looking for a way to justify it hehe

I know it's silly, more just a lack of mechanical sympathy than anything else I guess. Plus with delivery less of an opportunity to highlight any potential issues direct to the dealer.

Thanks for the input brittas - I'd be sure to thoroughly inspect having been almost caught out in the past with hire cars.

I went for personal collection last time, even though car could be delivered. I drove from London to Liverpool in my existing lease car, stopped in Iron Bridge and Telford, spent a night in Liverpool and then in the morning dropped off old car and picked up new one. Had the whole brand new car experience. And on a way back visited a few friends.

Dropping off old car was agreed with BCA and it was collected from there after the weekend. If next lease car is just white goods, I will opt for delivery, unless it's coming from some nice place or there are nice places on a way and it can be a good trip.

Collecting car from Mangoletsi was quite a hassle but they didn't offer delivery, so had to take National Express Bus from London to Manchester Airport and then taxi to middle of nowhere. Since delivery was ad hoc date, train was rather expensive and bus cheap as chips.

Mate of mine leased a Golf GTI a couple of years ago from a dealer nearly 300 miles away, and it was driven down by a semi retired guy.

It arrived reasonably dirty and the guy said to go and get it valeted and send the dealer the invoice.

Which he did, and was paid the same day.

Car was spotless.

The following might be out of date, as I’ve had it a couple of years...but I returned an M235 convertible last year after 3.5 years and 40k miles and was charged nothing. Yes, the car had been looked after, but the oyster seats were marked where I’d work a raw leather belt, there was slight kerbing on a couple of wheels and a dent in the bonnet inflicted, I think, when it was in for a service. The car had also had a couple of insurance repairs where other people had run in to it.

Just wondering in fairly general terms of there are any obvious pros or cons to leasing a car over two years or three?

All other factors are the same, same deposit, same monthly payments, same annual mileage. Other than I guess the better value for the initial payment is it just personal preference?

Considering a Skoda Superb Estate in 2 litre petrol if it makes any difference.
