Indeed brace yourself for the victim-blaming.

Funny how people on here seem to believe and remember when doubt is cast on women's stories but not so much when they're proved.

Did no one notice her missing? Family, friends etc?

Surely this would have hit the news when she was missing? News blackout? Ransom paid?

What an odd story
Not necessarily, we don't know when it happened but after her first couple of hits she dropped off the music scene as her follow on album wasn't as popular. So not impossible as there was little media interest in her career that this could have happened without many in the media noticing .

Not to mention the Joss Stone case which saw two men sentenced to life and to 18 years for plotting to behead her.

Very horrible i bet, but when did it happen? Maybe I am too cynical but she hinted at new music this year, why now?

definitely too cynical there goosey.

You've only got to look a few posts after yours and the victim blaming is starting to begin - if she wants to promote her new music, there are countless better ways to do so without risking the chance of having your private life splattered all over the tabloid pages and internet threads

Another round of NP&E victim blaming, doubt and implicit condemnation by way of cynicism.

Just lovely.

Why announce on Instagram, surely working with a womens charity would be better to help others, get the news around. J Have to wait and see. I think Connie Francis had a similar happen to her.

What an odd story
Not that odd at all. She's a singer, and songwriter. It probably isn't odd at all for someone like her to shut themselves away from the world for a period while they search for the next hit song, or rehearse their new album before heading to the studio.

When I think about it, I haven't seen or heard from my eldest son for more than a week. He lives in a room in an annex to somebody else's house. He comes and goes to work, etc, at different times to the family in the main part of the house. They don't clean or cook for him. He could be missing for weeks before they thought about looking for him, and it's not unusual for us to not hear from him for a couple of weeks at a time. It's the way modern life is for some people. Life can be lonely, and those who suffer loneliness may be spotted by those who would be predators, and "separated from the herd".

I can easily see how a person could simply go "off grid", especially a musician like Duffy.

Provided all she's said is true (and there's no reason to disbelieve her from what her statement said) then all I can say is that I sincerely hope she's OK, and has friends and family close to her who she can rely upon for support when she needs it. For all the feminist ideals of absolute equality, men and women are fundamentally different. And violence and terror directed at women, by men, needs to end. Hopefully by having Duffy, and others in the public eye, talk about this issue, it will help those women who suffer such despicable attacks to come forward and either get the perpetrators put away where they belong, or at least allow them to air their feelings somewhere where they can get whatever support they need to move on in the aftermath.

I'm not going to go off searching for the story, nor am I going to speculate further. The story will probably come to me anyway, in time, as that's how the internet and newspapers work, generally...

That would depend in which country the offence was alleged to have taken place.

Why is it that whenever there's a story in the media of a woman having been raped, people accuse her of having made it up for attention.

Can anyone give me an example of a case where a woman has been raped and then found a way to profit off the resulting media attention/build a career? I'm genuinely curious.
