As I understand it, we should be comparing the pay rise with next years inflation, which is predicted to be somewhere between 1-2%. In that sense it is a pay cut.
Not to put too fine a point on it, we should be comparing it to everyone else who's been doing their job over the last 15mths.
Pay rises based on next years inflation - that’s a new one on me. However, could be a good way for the government to control wage inflation - just predict a 0.5% rise!

As to comparing to everyone else who’s been doing their jobs let’s just compare the jobs within the NHS shall we? Has everyone in the NHS been stretched to the limit - all 1.4M or so employees? I very much doubt it. Now I can see a justification for rewarding the very front line staff for their efforts but they will be a minority of the staff. My own view is that these staff should be given a one off bonus for their efforts. Why should the vast majority who did not have to extend themselves be rewarded above anyone else?

I don't dislike Keir Starmer as a person, he appears to be a decent sort. But he is not a leader.
The Labour Party needed to be reformed, I was going to say that Starmer bottled it but I actually think he doesn't have the initiative for that kind of change.
I assume he's very intelligent and well educated but he's a plodder.

There were simple, honest answers to the question from the BBC this morning. He simply didn't have the wit to think of them quickly enough.

Why he couldn't say something like between 2-5% to be decided by a panel is beyond me, no doubt the don't ever commit to anything school of modern politics, and there are other public sector workers he could upset? But grow a pair Keir!

Starmer getting involved in the Meghan/Harry drama.

Boris rightly says it's nobody else's business, especially a PM.

Starmer really is a prick, all soundbites and kneeling.

Joking aside, it's quite shocking now, when you see some of the Labour '97-'07 grandees and they come across as sensible and with gravitas. Back when they were in power, I'd have happily stabbed then all. Shows how far the quality's dropped.

International Women's Week and a woman calls another woman a "silly cow"...

That would have sorted the War Games computer out much quicker.

I wasn't intending to be critical of Beckett. I don't agree with her politics but I always thought she was more of a conviction politician so fair play to her.

Sadly calling a spade a spade is frowned upon today though.

I suspect the BBC will be sending that journalist for ‘re-education’
I was scratching my head at the BBC branding and wondering if someone was getting fired.

Simple, obvious questions, directed at the cavernous void in the argument without unnecessary aggression. No wonder he wouldn't answer. Are there independent journalists reselling this stuff? Baffling, give her a promotion.
Who was that reporter? She did an excellent job.

Had an advert on Facebook last night from Labour - a video of a nurse about why the 1% pay increase is so bad.

Just desperate, emotionally manipulative stuff. I thought Starmer would be better than Corbyn for this sort of stuff, but obviously not.

Notice how it's always referred to as Nurse's pay, when it's actually the whole NHS.

If your feeling brave you could reply that the 1% is the band uplift for the year and that nurses will also receive an annual incremental pay increases within their banding and so will be receiving much more than 1%

Like I said ..If your feeling bravebiggrin

Starmer used to come across quite well before he was Labour leader. He has become an opportunistic whiney ninny.
