The asset forfiture of Mannafort should be looked at to decide if that punitive action would be taken. There's a likelyhood that as he's charged and convicted for crimes, then under US law assets would be forfeited.

Even without asset seizure, trump is only asset rich in name only and properies he owns have huge debts backing those, the largest that we know of to Deutsche Bank are due next year. We also know that due to CV-19 his debts have hugely risen as his properties aren't making money, no matter how many times he plays golf wink

We know his name has been removed from many properties that he claimed were his under a management only deal, we know he liked to inflate the value of his property empire when obtaining loans, yet significantly undervalue when paying taxes.

trumps been bankrupt 6 times, has many failed business and has driven the US the same way. It's a likelyhood he'll go the same way again, only this time with no russian money to bail out his business even without asset forfeiture.

We know they are hiding the government bailout money, from what we do know there's records showing a significant amount was paid to trump donors. Where was that $500bn of Mnuchins slush fund spent, you know the one that was agreed to have an inspector overseeing that trump sacked immediately, and they are now refusing to disclose where that money was spent?

I don't think he'll be incarcerated. The GOP and the MAGA Mob wouldn't allow it.

I think he possibly COULD will be made bankrupt but that will have little to no impact on his lifestyle. He's been through it enough times to make sure his assets are protected.

I think the best possible realistic outcome would to be to keep him tied in court battles for the rest of his life and hopefully watch his own personal fortune bleed away in legal fees
While he's been bankrupt many times I don't believe that he's ever had the DOJ, SDNY and IRS after him before. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that all three could already be preparing cases against him. After January, assuming he loses, he won't have Billy Barr to protect him and it looks likely that the dems will have the senate as well as the house and therefore control of all relevant committees. The GOP may not be in a position to do anything and I believe that most of them will spend next year trying to distance themselves as much as they can from the worst and most corrupt president in American history.

Rather too much assumption and/or wishful thinking there for me at this point in time. Yes polls but look where they've led us before.

Also, we can see the groundwork being laid for the election being stolen, not least in Trump's tweets today

The Mango Muppet has cancelled his rally in NH tomorrow, citing weather concerns.

Tropical storm Fay is not expected to make landfall anywhere near Portsmouth where the rally was to be held.

The reality is that another empty venue would just be too much for his fragile ego to take. Pathetic.

As mentioned this morning, trumps insistance on corruption of mail in voters means his supporters and GOP voters are distancing themselves from it, at a time when they will desperately need it.

The 'stable genius' running his campaign now has campaign staff worried in another way. He's busy getting his excuses ready and telling his base that mail in voting will lead to cheating, that millions of people will be voting illegally against him and that secret operatives will be collecting and disposing of millions of ballots.

And they believe him, but for Trump’s GOP politicians and strategists in the field, it’s a disaster. While trump is attacking mail-in ballots, GOP candidates all over the country are trying to push vote-by-mail, even if it’s only because they otherwise can’t possibly hope to compete in the states that have already implemented these programs.

There's reports now that many GOP voters are turning down campaign invitations to vote by mail.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trumps-att...

In Virginia,118,000 voters applied for absentee ballots for the Democratic primary on 32 June , but only 59,000 voters did so for the Republican primary.
It gets worse when you realize that most of the Democrats like Sen. Mark Warner ran unopposed, while the Republicans ran a contest to determine Warner’s opponent.

trump has energised voters to turn out against him, given people an incentive to show up in large numbers as it is, while Republicans have come to rely on voter suppression to win. trump is now a major obstacle to Republican candidates even when a majority of them support his policies.

ABC-Ipsos poll:

Do you approve of Trump's handling of the COVID crisis?

No 67%
Yes 33%

This is a new low since ABC-Ipsos began surveying in March.

Do you approve of Trump's handling of race relations?

No 67%
Yes 32%

57% of white Americans, and overwhelming majorities of black Americans (92%) and Hispanics (83%) disapprove of Trump's handling of this issue.

The problem is trump is saying over and over and over again that mail in ballots are easily manipulated and fraudulent to the point where it becomes a “fact”; people then protest that both him and his flunkies use them and the argument has moved on to a point where his “fact” is accepted.

In reality there is no evidence whatsoever that mail in ballots are open to corruption.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
....Absentee Ballots are fine because you have to go through a precise process to get your voting privilege. Not so with Mail-Ins. Rigged Election!!! 20% fraudulent ballots?

@CHueyBurns
Some more fact checking: First, voting is a right. Second, absentee ballots and mail in ballots are the same ballots. No difference. There can be a difference in how you acquire them (being sent one and requesting one, depending on state). But 29 states have no-excuse absentee.

To flesh out the above more, one should add that Michael Cohen told prosectutors were to look into trump, bank fraud, mortgage fraud, insurance fraud, campaign finance fraud, and other financial fraud, so the SDNY prosecutors and the grand jury already knows what they’re looking for.

But now they’re about to have Trump’s tax returns as a roadmap for putting together the pieces and following every last dollar in trump’s various criminal financial schemes, how he lied about it on his taxes enough if we're to believe Cohen to charge him for massive tax fraud.

These serious financial crimes tend to come with severe financial penalties in addition to prison time, again look at Mannafort.
trump has never been one to have cash on hand, and instead he’s always leveraged his properties deep into debt, which means that once he’s hit with asset forfeitures to cover his monetary fines, probably starting with NY properties such as trump tower.

Not only that but trumps sons and Ivanka are deeply involved also so trumps tax returns and money trail will probably also implicate them

Its not a surprise. She's arguing that neither MoscowMitch nor Trump are racist enough.

Trouble is that he'll always be able to find Better Call Saul type lawyers who are more than willing to string the process out until he's dead. If he's cornered he'll do a deal to get himself off. It's really hard to see someone like him ever being pinned down.

At the beginning of the year, I thought that Trump might just get a second term. Post Covid and his litany of errors, I cannot now see how he could win.

I do not think that Biden has the charisma to win the election, but Donald certainly has the ability to lose it.

The piece of the jigsaw that we are still missing is what was Biden Jr doing for the Ukraine.

Fortunately, I won’t have a vote
