What I find interesting is that he's quite odd. A real retiring type. At his own wedding he spent most of the day hidden away, not mixing with virtually all of the guests.
Still annoys me that we had people at our wedding to appease my wife's family - people neither of us have seen in the decade since. And I think some of her friends get a very peculiar view of me because she invests her energy into a much wider circle, which I just don't have the capacity for. My wife's a few months older so at least I know you're not talking about me. smile

Wanting her to quit a job she enjoys sounds very odd though, she must spend a lot less than my wife.

Back on topic, cultural misappropriation seems to be his main 'crime'.

Being that age trying to pull 18 year olds is sleezy, but not illegal.

Agnostic on Westwood.

I DJ'd the pre-show for one of his gigs in the early 00s, we had a bit of a reputation as the place in town and it was unquestionably very much a great timeinf my life hehe

He came down to whip up the crowd during my set, was a good laugh (he's bloody tall!), not stuck up his own arse and was genuinely interested in what I was playing (as a house DJ I was playing anything that sampled hip hop).

None of this means anything much I guess. I never saw anyone do anything too inappropriate (under the circumstances!), I mean the whole point of going clubbing was very much shagging, getting wasted and listening to good music. In that particular order I think scratchchin

He didn't touch you inappropriately then?

Depends, do I get some free money if I say he did?

I quite like that. Might work well as a choral arrangement or Gregorian chant.

I wouldn't judge anyone who did it. It's really no one's business other than the two parties involved, if it is of their own free wills.

I dated some teenagers in my early 30s. Some girls are quite mature and like older men. In fact some 18 year old women are more interesting and mature than 40 year olds.

People need to be less judgemental of the choices of others.
Of course you wouldn’t, because you did. banghead

I’d personally rather see the age of consent raised to 18, or at least have a restriction in a maximum age of someone able to sleep with a 16 year old child, which wouldn’t be above 18.

Dating teenagers in your 30’s? I definitely judge you.
Off topic, I left my wife of 17 years (I’m 48 and my wife is 37) for a 23 year old. We’ve been together for two years, I don’t give the age gap a second thought, she’s very mature and I’m childish, apparently.

People can judge all they like, I don’t care. I’ve heard it all, In a restaurant, "Would sir like to sit next to his daughter or opposite" etc. laugh

Sometimes you just meet somebody out of the blue and it turns your whole world upside down.

The divorce costs are stinging a bit, but she’s worth every penny. cool

You appreciate of course that your relationship won't compute on bristolbaron's appropriate age gap matrix? He'll be judging you.

That sort of thing raises all sorts of issues. Say a 16 and 17 year old are having consentual sex, no crime is committed. The boy turns 18, and is now committing rape?

I have a friend who met her current husband when she was still at school! IIRC She was 14/15 I'm unsure how much older than her he is, but it's at least 10 years, maybe 12+ He's the only guy she's ever slept with. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the only guy who she's kissed!

What I find interesting is that he's quite odd. A real retiring type. At his own wedding he spent most of the day hidden away, not mixing with virtually all of the guests. Had to be cajoled to come and do the cake cutting bit! (I think I said no more than 5 words to him!) And soon after he tried VERY hard to get her to quit her job and become a full time housewife (which is not her way at all!) A strange idea, given his job is very basic (he has no skill set) and he almost certainly earns about 2/3rds of what she brings home!

BUT

She UTTERLY adores him. Posts often on Social media how he's the best dad ever, best husband ever. Always looking out for her. Always encouraging her to be the best she can be. Without him she'd be nothing (which I doubt given she's very driven and runs her own business!) She posted a pic a few years back in a nice dress. I commented that she looked great. Not in a pervy way, but as a nice thing to say to a female mate! And she messaged me almost immediately asking me to remove my comment as "it might upset hubby" Which I did so as not to cause any problems. She also proudly told several people that he had put a tracking app on her phone as he cares about her wellbeing! eek

She's happy, he's happy. The kids are happy. Nothing I say or do will change anything. So I'll leave them to it.
Yeah she's so happy she had to ask you to delete a comment in case it 'upset hubby'.

Reading between the lines he sounds controlling

23 is not a big deal. She’s old enough to have lived a bit of adult life and start to find her way in the world. And like you say, some people are more mature for their age (and some less so hehe)

If you were saying she’s 17 then that would be weird. I’m 39 now and can’t imagine having much in common with a teenager (or even someone early 20’s). We’ve just spent the weekend with my SiL and 2 nieces, 11 and 16 and can confidently say they live in a completely different world.

yes

I had an aunt who we all thought was in a perfect, happy marriage for 20+ years... right up until she left her husband, when we discovered what really was going on.

Creepy age rule.

Your age / 2 +7.

48 / 2 = 24 + 7 = 31.
