Wasn’t the Ali G character partially based on Westwood?

Worked with Westwood a few times back in 2000s , nice guy , very professional , much more toned down offstage .

Worked with a few celebs and he never appeared on the sleaze scale to me , unlike others I worked with . He seemed a propper grafter , was keen to put the effort in rather than rest on his laurels . I remember his security team being quite low key , but if you got out of line they would put the fear of god into you.

As for his act , the means justified the ends and he did well for himself , most 90s and 2000s hip hop came to the UK through him .

It’s no worse than themany out there that emphasise their poshness when they came from a 2 bed semi

Heard Maria Carey castigating Westwood during an interview/promo on Radio 1 in his Fri/Sat rap show decades ago after he started leering/letching at her while broadcasting!

I would've thought the world he inhabits is filled with so much bhing and grievances it's going to be impossible to get a sense of what's true and what isn't.

No idea he was 62! But if he's still up to his old tricks now then he's got it coming.
Hang on. She brought up sex with black girls. He just rolled with it. She laughed, he was the one saying "calm down" He didn't exactly dwell on it though. Tried to move the interview on. confused

Sounds like they don't like him and are just "alleging" inappropriate behaviour. Classic we have no proof, but if we throw enough st we can hurt him

Perhaps they are angry that a White guy would shag Black girls.
Maybe he didn't want to support them for whatever reason. Maybe he thought they were rubbish laugh

Who knows.

Reading between the lines he sounds controlling

Would be really interested to she where she is at when she hits 40.

Controlling is an understatement, that sounds like an abusive relationship.

wink

I mean it is incredibly weird imo.

But like I say, no good ever comes from sticking your oar in. Anyone that tried would almost certainly end up losing her as a friend. Or potentially make things harder for her at home. The old adage, you cant tell anybody anything they don't want to hear. A friends ex wife was exactly the same, she controlled him massively. Gentle nudges to point this out were always met on the defensive with her behaviour being excused.

Eventually post divorce it clicked with him how he'd changed.

Creepy age rule.

Your age / 2 +7.

48 / 2 = 24 + 7 = 31.
I've heard this many times before.

Though my ego would love to actually shag a girl half my age at some point biggrin

Oh for sure.

When he turned up to a club appearance in Jamaica for the first time, having gathered a big following on the wireless as it was back then, the entire club refused to believe he was the world famous reggae DJ they'd heard dropping all the latest beats from the island and around the world. It was only when he started playing music people accepted he really was David Rodigan. hehe I love the fact he doesn't really mix either, he's too old school for that and really is a 'selector' in every sense of the word.
Its not my scene. But Roddigan is probably one of the most influential DJs/Producers ever. Right up there with Goldie and Carl Cox

Given what a fruitloop Carey is, I wouldn't be surprised if it was more, that she had her tits pretty much hanging out. And being a guy he ended up staring. I don't take this as a criticism of TW at all laugh

Westwood is the son of an Anglian bishop who went to the King Edward Norwich School. Who suddenly started to speak like a tit. If he had just kept his accent and gushed bout the music he would have had far more respect from many.
Apart from the fact he was British and said British rap is crap and many Brit rappers sound like they have a plump in their mouths.

I think that sort summed up his own insecurities more than anything.
No-one gives a st about how he talks. Just because it offends you personally.
It doesn't offend me, just that I think it a bit sad that someone puts on an accent like that. I can't take him seriously.

When I was at uni in the 90s listened to him and was amazed to the discover he was white, but then again most black people in the UK who talk like that its a put on as well I believe it even has a dialect "Jafrican". So him speaking in a faux voice is no different to most of the rappers out there. Look at the really successful hip hop artists they slip in an out of it, Dre, Jay Z, Snoop etc. Its ones lower down the chain who are all about the image etc.
I suspect Westwood has had his fair share of young women, I doubt he has had to force any. Being a lecherous tt is not illegal and seems to be the more popular the more you get away with it (think most footballers and young actors).

I hope if he has done anything there is evidence an he faces a day in court. If however this is just a ploy to vet rid an replace with a younger DJ then its a disgrace.

Me too, as I had heard him speak in the 80's and he didn't sound anything like that.

As I said earlier, he went to King Ed Norwich school and then to Hewett school in Norwich.

I remember some of the hip hop nights as mates were well into it, and he was about sometimes, think he might have been on Kiss by then, in fact didn't he part own it at the start? Anyway, I got into the rave scene and my house etc. and remember listening to him in the mid 90s and didn't realise it was the same bloke.

All a bit weird.

Fair enough.
I don't think it's an accent, it's just how he speaks I guess.

Yes. Black wives matter.
