Looking to see if I can track an Android phone on my iPhone & MacBook please.

I have a macbook & iPhone and my young son has an iPhone, together we use Find Friends so that I can track his location when he's out with friends etc. It's great when he's out on his bike and rings me to pick him up when he doesn't really know how to describe where he is. Viewing his location on my MacBook and iPhone is perfect.

But he now wants an Android phone, so is there a way of me still being able to trace him as I can now?
Can Find Friends be installed on an Android, or would we both need to install new apps?

Findmydevice works on pc and Android, I assume worst case you could use a browser on your iPhone to access it.

Hi,

easiest option is Google location sharing. Ensure phones (regardless of android or ios) are signed into a google account which allows the other account to see its location. Very easy.

To see location, open Google Maps, choose Location Sharing and hey presto.

Thanks, thats one to remember. Does it remain in share mode until you physically cancel it, or does the share mode drop out if the app is closed?

It keeps sharing until you close it in settings.

Although there are plenty of 'spoof my location' apps in the Google Play store so he could appear to be wherever he wanted to be when you track him.

I'm sure he could, but for now he likes the fact that I can see where he is and all he has to do is text 'Pick me up' and I know where he is.

Not quite as slick but WhatThreeWords is quite an efficient way to explain a location.

Life360 we use it between apple and Android I can even log in on the web on windows PC to view everyone's locations.

The speed and accuracy are worlds apart from the "findmy" app I honestly wonder how Apple could get it so wrong.

You can share real time location on WhatsApp but you have to specify how long for, 1 hr 8hrs etc it won’t do it forever.

I didn't realise that, I'll have a look into it, thanks.

According to google..

Share your live location

Enable location permissions for WhatsApp in your phone's Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > App permissions > Location > turn on WhatsApp. Alternatively, if you recently opened WhatsApp, you can go to your phone's Settings > Apps & notifications > WhatsApp > Permissions > turn on Location.
Open an individual or group chat.
Tap Attach > Location > Share live location.
Select the length of time you'd like to share your live location. Your live location will stop being shared after the selected amount of time.
Optionally, add a comment.
Tap Send.
Stop sharing your live location

Stop sharing your live location in a specific chat or group -

Open the individual or group chat.
Tap Stop sharing > STOP.

It’s good on days out with a group you can share your locations to the group. Also when I leave my mum and dads late at night with my daughter I share my loc with them so they can see I get home OK. It’s the 2020 version of one-bell’ing someone hehe
