Cable avoidance tool if you don't know what C.A.T is.

Bought one to play with so that I can trace utilities and the 300mm land water drain that runs through my property (separate thread for the drain is lying around PH somewhere).

It looks like someone has cornered the market with these things (possibly Network Rail) making it difficult to get at the data that it stores

Also a nice little money earner, in forcibly requiring annual 'calibration', has been devised for 'elfin safety'.

Once the calibration date has passed the unit can't be used until recalibrated.

Mine's a gC.A.T4+ so stores GPS location and depth readings, both of which I'd like to access.

Anyone hacked into one of these before?

It's accessible via Bluetooth but I'm also happy to take it apart if necessary.

I plan to keep it for a while.

You need a registered Company login which, I presume, costs money and has to be a genuine Company.

Otherwise you need to be an employee of a registered Company.

I can't seem to register as 'random eccentric geezer who likes toys'.

Got it now.

You need to use C.A.T Manager for Win10 to get all the data files.

Pretty impressive as it logs everything every second and you can use Google Earth to generate a GPS map from the files.

More playing will be done.

Always used Radio Detection kit. Never used it to log, the GPS would never be accurate enough for survey detail. They never stopped post calibration date, we always used to have an outside company send a loan unit, and take ours for calibration. Never had any experience of your brand, and have been out of the game for several years. To be fair, the better kit is not really a cable avoidance tool, but a service location tool, down to individual services within multiple service runs.

Calibration can be done online now, but my unit is set to warn when you are past the due date and not lock.

I'm using a hose pipe with a radiodetectable wire stuffed inside it to locate the drains.

I've decided that a C.A.T is a must have toy now that I've worked out how to get the data off it.

Next stop is a mini digger followed by a cherry picker.

I should have been a builder lol.
