Brilliant quote from Jackie, showimg his characteristic honesty.
'I knew from an early age I couldn't play football. But I could stop other people playing. '
Brilliant. The archetypal no prisoners fit as a sight hound, hard as a coffin nail English footballer.
I'm sorry he's dead. He seemed like a really pleasant chap away from the pitch, and very genuine. In TV interviews, especially as a manager, his personality and good humour was obvious. 'I knew from an early age I couldn't play football. But I could stop other people playing. '

A great manager, the best Ireland ever had, but lacked skill at football, apart from with his head. Very dirty - but then he played for Leeds around 1970.
In the FA cup final in '70 the fact that he was injured for the replay against Charlton, who'd got Webb back, cost his team the match. His presence was underrated I think at the time. Leeds allowed Chelsea to play some quality football.
