It won’t make any difference to me.
I go to the supermarket as little as possible. I have been to a diy/garden centre/pet store combined half a dozen times as needed. I haven’t been to a town centre since the initial outbreak. My missus doesn’t go to shops as she had double pneumonia, pleurisy and abscesses eating through her lungs less than a year ago.
I haven’t been wearing a mask so far but ordered a stock last week as I could see harder mask restrictions being implemented in Spain, and can only see us following.
When that happens, I will still have to go, I will go as little as possible as per the last months (only when I have to) but will succumb to wearing a mask.

The problem is those who can’t afford to shop online, no internet or credit card etc, will find paying for masks an additional burden. Once they are mandatory, I’d expect the costs to go up too.
It’s probably too much to ask key shops like supermarkets to hand disposable ones out on entry if required but that would really help.

I would be surprised if larger shops don't do so.It’s probably too much to ask key shops like supermarkets to hand disposable ones out on entry if required but that would really help.
I doubt they'll want to turn away customers literally at the door for the sake of a 20p (at their volume) mask plus I'd imagine the most likely to not have them are the pensioners and people for whom Internet access might not be a given.
Less about paying being a burden simply what do you do if you're 80 and you're told "go get a mask by Wednesday" other than a DIY scarf type covering?

I know this sounds like someone trying to find a loophole, but do we know what actually constitutes a mask? I wear a Buff neckwarmer thing ( link) over my mouth and nose under my helmet when on my motorbike, will this be enough or do I need something that looks a bit more mask like?
I believe they are currently legal on public transport, but this could change....I just cannot see the issue about masks in shops or confined spaces. I can only assume most people who are "anti" them just cannot be arsed generally about this, as it's "just a bit of flu" or more likely just cannot be arsed to locate / buy or make them.
For those who say they are uncomfortable...how long are you in the shop for, maybe speed it up a bit! For those that say it makes you mess with your face more, FFS, grow up and get used to them, think about what your doing and it wont be an issue. For those that say you need an FFP3 to get any benefit, well you're assuming that the idea is to protect you, it isn't.
For shops, they SHOULD be mandatory, no doubt in my mind....for no other reason that if we as customers are wear them for the 15 or 30 mins we are in the shop, the guys who work in the shops day in day out, feeding us, clothing us etc etc, have a greater chance of getting through the day, week, next 6 months staying well. Without them having to wear FFP3 masks for 10 hour shifts.
I wear one in shops when I go in, I seem to be in the minority, and the mask doesn't bother me in the slightest. If it helps even in 1% of cases, it is worth doing IMO.

Part 5 of The Health Protection (Coronavirus) (Restrictions) (Scotland) Regulations 2020 (yes really - that number of sets of brackets) defines it as:legislation said:
“face covering” means a covering of any type which covers a person’s nose and mouth,
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2020/103/part/5
Whether that gives any pointer to what's going on in Boris's head is anyone's guess.
It's already mandatory here in Scotland. I have no desire to wear one and therefore will not be visiting any shops other than the weekly food shop. Everything else I can have delivered and the benefit is if I don't like the item or I have buyers remorse I can return it without problem. How to kill your ailing High Street once and for all!
if they become mandatory or even their use increases I predict the law of unintended consequences will come into play. We will see a growth in respiratory diseases caused by people using the masks not changing or disinfecting them often enough. A perfect bug trap covering your mouth & nose.
