Fairly typical for Monbiot - what's the problem? The answer is an end to capitalism!

Edited to add... interesting, any particular reason why you removed the original post?

Somehow it was an old post of mine that was cached on a device I rarely use. I was typing a different response and posted that by error. The article is an old one, so no point posting it, even if it is still accurate.

I didn't say they should do it right now because as you say other things are going on.

I don't think that's the issue here I think the issue is the lack of commitment to do anything about the recommendations.
There is, of course, a risk that this is just you (again) not hearing the specific words in the specific ways you want them, at the time you want them, to get all uppity about something to do with the government again smile

If we agree now is not the right time for this sort of guff, why on earth does anything need to be said at all? The people taking the action are just st stirring to get people like you boiling their own piss. It evidently works a treat.

Let it all be raised again in a few years' time when the impact and implications of it will be fresh in time for the next election. Meanwhile, let the knob jockeys wanting to run this through the courts now, taking government cycles etc, spend their efforts playing the gumshoe and finding something definitive (that hasn't been found yet despite people looking and desperately wanting to find something) to suggest that this won't just be a waste of everyone's time and (crowdfunded no doubt, along with taxpayers' on the other side) money.

I like their attitude towards infidelity and extramarital affairs.

I don't think my wife will go for it though, so I'm playing safe.

It seems Paris is regularly on fire though. Viva La Revolucion.
How do you know your Mrs isn't already playing by their rules, you misogynist biggrin

Corruption, cronyism and fraud. Don't expect anything to come of it though.
The thing that gets me is how unmoved and unsurprised by this I feel. I mean, it's hardly like we didn't know they were utterly corrupt already.
I've been equally unmoved by such things for the last 30yrs.

This, to me, is where the whole system needs a revamp. Civil Service and all.

The French rules only apply to French men. The philosophy is, as far as I can tell, that any hole's a goal, so to speak, although clearly this will be subject to personal preferences and standards.

My missus knows how lucky she is. I am one in a million. She often tells me this. At least I think that's what she means.

Is that when you're dressed up as William Wallace?

Forget Marcus Rashford, your missus is quite evidently one of the most charitable people on the planet biggrin (I would say second only to mine...although I think mine sticks around due to sado-masochistic tendencies).

Not as I recall it.

I seem to recall criticism of the govt for not wanting to investigate it further (which could be nefarious, pragmatic or anything in-between). But my recollection was that there was nothing doing with it.

I also recall much harumphing on here in the run up to it and then silence when it turned out to be the damp squib it was always destined to be (and just like any court case now is likely to be - though this one is even more likely to be a waste of time and cycles).

Shush. Don't spill the beans about my William Wallace fetish or they'll all want a piece of me.

I'll tell my missus what you said, next time I nip down to the cellar.

You know Murph I think if someone were to read your posts and my posts there's only one of us who comes across as "boiling their own piss".

I don't think it's me but perception's a funny thing I'll grant you smile

Incidentally to find something you do have to actually look.

Please could you clarify, IforB. When you say you know they were utterly corrupt already. Who? The current government, all governments or someone else?

If I may be so bold, and I'm sure Ifor will be along shortly to answer the question for himself, but I was referring specifically to the current incumbents.

That doesn't mean to say that all governments (taken in the round) are not immune from corruption but this latest little snippet seems to suggest things are taking a turn for the worse.

Cash for honours will take some beating but there may well be some prepared to have a try. This is politics, so "what's owed" matters.

You could go back even further TB and refer to Jack Straw and his cash for questions antics.

I'm not sure this is about payback though. It's more about this stinks. Just because it has been very whiffy for a long time doesn't excuse anything.

Politicians lining their pockets when the country is crippled takes some beating in any case.

What have the Labour party events got to do with it?

Sounds like Brexit will put pay to it.
