A room, a bar and a classroom: how the coronavirus is spread through the air
Fascinating article by El Pais.
i'm sure someone will be along to dispute it in moments, but it seems reasonably well sourced.
There are indeed a lot of assumptions listed at the bottom of the article. A room, a bar and a classroom: how the coronavirus is spread through the air

The biggest one being that 2m social distancing is maintained. Impossible in most schools and when I’ve been to pubs and restaurants I’m not sat 2m away from the people I’m eating & drinking with.
Does seem that ventilation helps, but that might be a challenge as we enter the winter months.
ETA - does confirm my belief that the term ‘covid secure’ is nonsense though.

Thanks for the link, that's a good explanation. I can't see anything wrong with it and underlines just how easy it is to spread in bars. A room, a bar and a classroom: how the coronavirus is spread through the air

It doesn't explain the Diamond Princess - couples were confined to cabins, the infected with the uninfected, and they did not all catch it.
Aerosol transmission would also make masks useless.

This is the big push just now though. Follow the risk assessment and socially distance otherwise if we get Covid then you’re to blame.
Ventilation ... all windows wide open and kids telling me they’re freezing. Meh, tough. Although I was at the dental hygienist the other day and they have some sort of air purifier on 24/7 which they claimed cleared the air in the room every 8 minutes. I doubt councils could afford this type of luxury in all classrooms though.
We’re always hearing the term “Covid secure” in schools. We all know we’re not Covid secure.
Usual apologies for DM link - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8898985/B...
So yet again briefed out by number 10 on a Friday evening to see how it's received over the weekend.

Do us all a favour and lock yourself away in a room then.
We will let you know when it’s “safe” to come out.
P.s. was there any suggestion whatsoever from the OP that they were intending to not follow social distancing guidelines before, during or after their flight to a destination on the uk government travel corridor list?
You and Brundan are clearly authoritarian nutjobs. It is people like you we really need distance from.
Haven't a clue what you are ranting on aboutWe will let you know when it’s “safe” to come out.

Someone said they’re going on holiday and were glad to not have to take a test to get there.
BB suggested this was putting people at risk.
I suggested BB keep their nose out of other peoples lawful business.
You then started on about social distancing and further suggested the OP is putting people at risk.
I suggested you distance yourself from lawfully acting people and questioned why you brought up social distancing.
Make sense now?
Understand it now, my mistake, I shouldn't have clicked the quote all button
Will try again

Unfortunately, far too many pricks are showing that they aren’t taking this stuff seriously enough, and they have proven that they do need strong arming.
Social distancing must surely help slow the spread, those that don't bother staying away from others could be unknowingly to them causing someone to depart from this planetMX5Biologist said:
"Covid-secure" is coming from the Health and Safety Executive. It constitutes official advice. They call it "guidance"; this is an important term. If you are not prepared to follow the guidance, consider a new profession.
I’m trying to follow the “guidance” but I’m working in rooms that are barely big enough to house all the kids never mind have a 2m gap at the front for the teacher! Plus there’s often another adult, sometimes two, in classes so it’s basically impossible to create the 2m distance advised.
If I could jump to another profession right now I would jump in a heartbeat. While I still have one!

To be fair, how many people at older ages don't have pre-existing conditions? It's not that everyone with one is imminently going to keel over after all. So the statement about majority with conditions is neither here nor there. The country has gone mad

It depends on the nature of the condition. The true proportion of care homes deaths was nearly 50% for example (and was underreported initially)
https://www.bmj.com/content/369/bmj.m2334
Average life expectancy in a care home is twenty months and this virus is likely to have taken the most vulnerable residents.

No it isn't. These conditions are elsewhere termed "comorbidities" because they would have contributed to their deaths even without the dreaded virus. They do not affect all, or even the majority of old people, some are avoidable or even curable, but they do average more than two per person in the COVID-19 dead. That is far from "neither here not there".
