It's following the advice from Sage.
No
It's interpreting the advice from Sage
And making a mess of it
Michael Gove has a lot to answer for. We truly live in a post-expert age.

The Welsh Govt have taken advice from Sage and used half term as an opportunity to attempt to slow the spread of the virus whilst trying to minimise the economic impact.

Fair enough if you don't agree with this decision but if you can't see the reasons behind it then I don't know what to say.
Box ticked
You didnt last too long as a rather unconvincing neutralista
I've never pretended to be neutral. I can see why this decision has been taken and agree with some, if not all of it.

I can also keep my emotions in check around the decision and if that makes me appear supercilious then so be it.
Thanks for your reply
I can see you are a measured chap caught up in all this.
Good job you can keep your emotions in check unlike some of the people in this article:
They don't understand its for the wider good to protect the butcher the baker, the candlestick maker etc

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-supermarket...

"One shopper told her that he thinks "the Welsh government has lost the plot".

Members of the public have expressed their disbelief at the government measures.
Twitter user Philippa Smallwood wrote: "It's absolutely ridiculous what is going on in Wales btw (by the way).

"Supermarkets having to tape off aisles as it is not essential items. Pretty sure that if you are isolated for 17 days and your kettle packs in, you should be able to buy a new one."

Fellow Twitter user Lucy Heath wrote: "Words fail me. How is a microwave not essential for someone if theirs breaks? Same with a kettle?

Bless you
It's very nice of you to bless him and shows that despite all the turmoil we are all just men and women trying to get through
I bless you too

You forgot the loss of Welsh tax revenue from any UK based retailer, whereas the tax take from Amazon will be minimal....
I don’t think there is such a thing as “Welsh tax revenue”. My understanding is that the people and companies of Wales all contribute to UK tax collection. Control of certain aspects of spending has been.devolved, but not of tax raising as such.

God almighty, what the juddering fk is Wales up to? It is despairing to seen the insanity ramped up a notch.

OK, I can sort of see the Welsh governments justification, in providing a level playing field for businesses that are forced to close but it's still bonkers.

Point 1 I want to make. Can the Welsh government actually dictate what can and cannot be sold (within reason, obviously you can't buy a kilo of semtex ) and is this actually lawful? I wonder what would happen if Tesco took the welsh G to court.

The firebreak is due to end on november 9th. If cases haven't dropped, then what? I hate to say it, but I'd probably put money on restrictions lasting another 2 weeks after that. I genuinely believe from what we're seeing, this is just the thin end of the wedge. Certain items will only be legally sold on certain days. Beachware only for sale when there isn't an R in the month. Potatoes are essential but not on mondays - leading to Doris, 88, from Pontypridd falling foul of the covid restrictions and fined £10,000 for forgetting the fish from the fish and chip shop on monday afternoon and leaving with just the bag of chips.

Covid marshalls had followed her in their yellow van and caught her contravening the increasingly bizarre covid regulations. In mitigation, the defence said that Doris was starving, hadn't managed to get to a shop for 2 weeks and there were no supermarket delivery slots. This was not accepted by the court and Doris was fined a further £315 in costs and sent to a concentration camp in Portmeirion for 2 years detention.

"Rules are rules, Doris."

Anyhoo. On a serious note (although the above was only slightly tongue in cheek) we now have this.

Gloucestershire police to patrol welsh border

Why the fk does it fall to an English police force to monitor the Welsh border? I hope the invoice is sent to the welsh government, and they get no cash from westminster to shore up their insane policies.

All he has done is make life harder for the staff working there. If someone picks something up they won't sell it. Risking them getting more abuse. So rather than being some sort of hero he is a dick in my book.

If he wants to make a stand then go over to England - buy stuff, then start selling it on the street. When arrested or fined demand court and probably get locked up. The system is totally set up so you have zero chance of winning. But taking it out on shop staff is not on.

Amazon win here. Life gets harder for normal people. Much harder for those who need help the most (the neonatal mother I referenced in my last post). The Welsh government sadly will probably GAIN support for this. Most people are thick and think 'harsher = safer". I just go back to what I said before - I can drive in and our of Wales carrying alcohol - but I can't buy baby clothes. Madness.

Just when you think it can't get any worse it does! Well done Drakeford!

Welsh government to buy ex-Swedish postal vans to be repurposed for covid marshals. To be used to observe the behavour of the public from the safety of the van. They are already the right colour to match the hi-viz jackets and will be fitted with CCTV and a loudhaier on the roof. Anyone caught buying a birthday card or childrens clothes will be fined!
So the diktat is ‘if you can, work from home’

So, I need to print a document for business purposes, for instance a supply agreement or contract, and I’ve run out of printer paper.

According to that last photo I can’t buy paper, as it’s ‘non-essential’...... rolleyes

There’s some really disjointed, illogical thinking going on here...

Not true.

I had a nice letter from HMRC to tell me of this, in spite of working for a company registered in England.

Went shopping in Wales today, no mask, bought lots of cake, not challenged. Slightly disappointed, as I was in the mood for an argument.
Why would you expect sensible people would want to get into a discussion with a someone who is looking for an argument?

People challenging nutters have frequently ended up on a mortuary slab.

Anyone in Wales who wants to stick 2 fingers up to the loony running the place. If you have a cosco trade card (just need a ltd company or some evidence that you run a business - so knock a business card up on your computer) - tren you can buy anything you want.

Assume that goes for all the other wholesalers as well. Not sure why my girl having a Ltd company means I can buy clothes but the nutters have set the rules so we must play along.

Someone has created a petition which appears to be getting traction, although I suspect it will fall on deaf ears.

Just saw this on C4 news. I agree it will probably come to nothing as it's open for 6 months I think, but I have signed it.

Some Welsh Chav Bruv going all mental at the Welsh Gubbermint. That'll teach them as I rip plastic and tape! What he doesn't realise or care about is that it will be a teenage part time kid fixing his damage.

Sometimes when someone is in the wrong, they only get challenged when they REALLY overstep the boundaries. I hope that this is that moment for Mr Drakeford and the WA.
This ^

I went for a walk before and a few independent retailers near me have stayed open. Including one that sells small electrical stuff like kettles and toasters.

Never seen so many police cars/vans in my life. Was out for around two hours and saw 20+ in that time.

We’ve pretty much just done what we’d usually do on a miserable October day. No rebelling... yet.

You 'could' look at it from the other side of the coin...
the teenage kid will still have some work and not lose his job/income for a bit longer.
The chav has one point - 'Since when did kid's clothes become non-essential?'
And I'm told that we're supposed to be 'saving the planet from plastic' - to me and many other sane people it appears since lockdown plastic usage had increased a trillion fold, from screens in every shop in the land to the plastic stickers every f way you turn, on floors, walls and even pavements.
Where the f is Greta when she's 'really' needed, eh?

The only correct assessment is the that the lunatics have truly taken over the asylum.

Never mind, it can only get worse.

The Welsh online paper asked if lockdown at chrismas would they respect rules and stay at home or sod the rules and visit family/have family round. Its was pretty much fk off to the rules in the replies. I can't see another lockdown after this one, I think people will take to the streets and protest. The trust of the governments has been lost.

I live in Cardiff and been on partial lockdown for 4/5 weeks already. Once this one is done no more. Its work home work home work home for the second time. It's grinding now.

These lockdowns are supposed to be protecting the vulnerable but it's caused my nan to have a mental breakdown and we had to have her sectioned which was a nightmare in itself, (no history of mental health issues) She's not alone there are several in the hospital where covid has caused or brought out mental health issues.

I have friends working from home who haven't seen anyone for months and I've noticed changes in them. I know some like working from home but many don't and to have it thrust upon you and not being allowed to socialise outside of work it's not so nice.

If the governments are not careful there could be bigger problems on the horizon.

How far can I travel to shop for essentials?

Please stay local to your home whenever possible. There are no set rules on this, but people are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and avoid crowded spaces wherever possible, particularly indoors. Alternative approaches such as online services and deliveries should be used wherever possible.

To me, if you require an essential that you cannot buy in Wales because it has been cling filmed off, I would be over the border to get it.

Pedantic, but then so is the rule
