Welsh lockdown

I do wonder how many Welsh speakers cannot speak English however.
Happy for those who wish to speak it to speak it, but I don't like it being rammed down my throat. I wish there was an opt out system for not recieving official documents in Welsh, bloody waste of paper and resources.
You clearly can't see the irony in this post. We are in Wales. Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe and the main reason for its decrease is that English has been "rammed down our throats" for the past 150 odd years by such means as the Welsh Not punishing and stigmatising children for speaking Welsh. Today, Welsh speakers oblige non-Welsh speaking people by speaking English with them. Many people suggest that by doing this we are perpetuating the problem because it allows them not to make any effort to learn Welsh. What other nation has allowed this to happen? If you were to move to France would you make some effort to learn French?Happy for those who wish to speak it to speak it, but I don't like it being rammed down my throat. I wish there was an opt out system for not recieving official documents in Welsh, bloody waste of paper and resources.
I'm lucky in that in speaking Welsh and English my life is doubly-enriched with both cultures and languages and living in Wales. If we lose the language we'll lose our heritage, literature, poetry, music and so much more. We don't want to deny you your right to speak English. Surely, in Wales, is it not my basic human right to use Welsh in may day-to-day life? I'm just sick of having to justify this simple concept.

I grew up in NE Wales and so learnt Welsh to the age of 13. I can count, pass the time of day, have an understanding of some location type words. The most useful thing is being able to pronounce place names though. I live just over the border but there are still many local villages with welsh names on the English side, plus road and house names which are Welsh.
I can say all the best words like poppity ping - microwave. Bendygeddig is another favouriteBoRED S2upid said:

IT is still too early to say whether a second firebreak will happen in the new year, the health minister has said.
A second firebreak lockdown could be required in Wales by January or February next year, Wales’ deputy minister for economy and transport Lee Waters said over the weekend.
Asked whether he agreed with that statement yesterday, health minister Vaughan Gething said: "None of us can say what is likely."
Mr Gething added: "What we are being really upfront with people about is that the firebreak is necessary to deal with the exponential rise in cases and the exponential rise in harm that we are seeing."
Decisions on whether a second firebreak lockdown would be needed in the new year, he said, would depend on how successful the current measures are.

500 vehicles stopped...
A Welsh police force confirmed that officers stopped more than 500 vehicles on the first weekend of the firebreak lockdown
Gwent Police confirmed its officers stopped the vehicles as part of "proactive patrols" in communities across the force area of Gwent, which includes Newport, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Torfaen.
The force also confirmed that it issued a "number" of fixed penalty notices for house parties and large gatherings.
A statement from Gwent Police said: "During the first weekend of new restrictions, we carried out proactive patrols and engaged with more than 500 motorists.
"We issued a number of fixed penalty notices including for house parties and large gatherings."
A Gwent Police Twitter account also tweeted on Saturday that officers were carrying out patrols and issuing fixed penalties on Friday night, sharing an image from the Prince of Wales Bridge on the border with England.

Is there any kind of mechanism where we English can insist Wales just stays locked down for, well, ever?
You know it's a valid pointIf the English closed the border there would be such an outcry.
Last week, Gloucestershire Constabulary also confirmed it would establish police checks on the English side of the border during the firebreak lockdown to encourage people to stick to the measures put in place by the Welsh Government.
Speaking on Friday, a spokesman for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: "While we cannot issue fines to those travelling from Wales into the county we can inform the host force of those we stop about what has happened so they can take action.
