I didn't think I would see a return to a full lockdown from any European nation again given how destructive the last one was. Macron has big balls to be the first one back in. I'm guessing Spain and a handful of other nations jump next then we will follow suite.

I thought the French were the types to throw up barricades and start burning tyres every time the work vending machines run out of Crunchies, yet they seem to be accepting virtual house arrest?
More accepting of mandates from the state. The UK is by "asking for your help"
France is "You will" - the state is strong and different from companies or the EU.

Not quite as strict as the last one.France has been a few weeks ahead of us throughout this, a couple or so at the start and maybe 3 or so now, but I think we’re naive if we in uk think the trends they have there now will not happen here too eventually.
Even Sweden seems to be getting a bit mullered by it now, with some lockdowns going in in some areas.
Reported today that Sweden’s IFR is 6 times that of its scandic neighbours? Is that correct, seems to be a big difference if true.
Pressure will be on boris now the next couple of weeks, if he is going to do a national lockdown, sooner he does so the better, less pain, greater effect and quicker.
But he may wait to see how France’s pans out. I reckon by then, we will be where they are now, case, hospitalisation and daily deaths wise.
Strap in, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Btw, my family in Paris moved out to the suburbs about 2 weeks back as the city was just “ridiculous” per my brother who’s lived there 32 years.
But even the suburbs compared to March have been showing a worrying number of cases, and with less health infrastructure, have been struggling. So as of last week, they’ve moved out of France to Luxembourg where his head office is based. Basically left both their homes in France empty and rented an apartment in Lux for 6 months.
He reckons Luxembourg for various reasons seems to have more space, more distancing, and a regular testing regime for all registered persons. His kids are in school already and already been tested, as has his missus, not him yet. He misses his home in France, but says it makes sense and they feel far more relaxed in Lux. He reckons more people there seem to just be a bit more sensible about it all. But it is a big change for them all and one a year ago when he moved to his newly renovated apartment in Paris, he didn’t think they’d be making!

There's an inevitable chain of events about to kick in.
Wales are already shut down.
Northern Ireland reported A&E at full capacity last night with queues of patients waiting in ambulances. HDUs and ICUs will be overwhelmed early next week. Northern Ireland will lock down.
Scotland will lock down regardless of ability to cope just to mess with English heads.
UK deaths will jump to 500+ on Tuesday. Govt will note these numbers combined with the rest of the UK and much of Europe locking down will generate a sizable majority (we were already at over 60% last time I heard) wanting much stronger action to stop the spread. The Government shall hold firm for the sake of the economy
Towards the end of next week or the week after we will see hospitals in worse affected areas become overwhelmed. Nightingale Wards will re-open, Schools in North West England may close due to the number of sick teachers and Covid19 positive self isolating teachers. The Government shall continue to hold firm.
The week after, on the Tuesday, if 1000+ daily deaths are reported, media clamour, figures showing a large (and increasingly vocal) majority keen to lock down, doctors and scientist stating the NHS can't cope and realising Christmas is going to be a disaster the Government will capitulate.
Like it or not we will lock down.

I started back at the gym last month.
Only allowed 40 people at any one time, and you have to book your time.
On entry, you wash your hands and are given a cloth and spray bottle of sanitizer.
Before using any equipment you give it a spray, and again after you’ve done.
The staff are constantly going around cleaning equipment too.
At the end of your session you drop the cloth and bottle in a box at the exit.
Seems to work well, and I assume many gyms are doing the same as the infection rates in gyms is very low.
Been since Aug every week day same ish system, spray an disposable wipes. Every one does it plus staff all the time cleaning. A few machines closed off to give you a bit of extra space. Healthy people on the whole survive covid not 100% true but certainly makes sense keeping fit.Only allowed 40 people at any one time, and you have to book your time.

I don’t believe the government will announce a second national lockdown but I do think everywhere will be Tier 3 before the end of November.
You do realise Tier 3 doesn't really add much over Tier 2, don't you ?Additionally, some places - Blackburn, for example, have been subject to harsher restrictions compared to most places for months.
The effect of that has been, essentially, nothing. They currently have the highest infection rate in the country
The government can harp on about different tiers to provide the illusion that they are doing something but the reality is that it doesn't amount to much.

I recon this one will be a more watered down version. Think no wine no women no sin no fun but you will go to work. Those who's jobs are to provide the wine, women, sin and fun will get a degree of support but I'd be surprised if it's going to be anywhere near as generous.

You have to book a slot at my gym, my daughter and I have been going 3 times a week since they opened. Hand sanitizer upon entry and exit. Wipe down after using each machine/bike/weight/whatever. The gym has never been so clean. We are going into tier 3 tonight and the gym is staying open. Happy days!Only allowed 40 people at any one time, and you have to book your time.
