I'm not concerning myself with that/them.
It's the people who want to do the right thing.
Those still waiting might appreciate some solidarity.

Hell, who knows, they might get it!

And if the rules are to be policed then I wonder what the police think about this method of scheduling the mask freedom?

I'm not really sure I see the contention. Wearing masks indoors has become pretty well normalised for ~99.9% of the population at this point. Many of those who have been vaccinated still voluntarily choose to wear masks, because we're still not 100% on the actual long-term efficacy of the vaccines on offer and because they want to avoid the rigmarole of having to prove vaccination status.

Wanting to be vaccinated but not having had the vaccine yet doesn't magically make you immune. I think very few people who are waiting for vaccination take issue with wearing masks so I'm not sure why they'd find the tweet contentious.

What are the figures for those that have already been vaccinated who still choose to wear a mask.and will continue to wear a mask until the vast majority of their fellow citizens are also vaccinated?

What are the figures for how may people who haven't yet been vaccinated who would be perfectly happy to see others in the same spaces not wearing masks while they still have to?

Because if these figures are known and they stack up then game on!

Or are you surmising?

The bit about suddenly being magically immune??
Who suggested that?

Until literally 24 hours ago it was explicitly the CDC guidance that vaccinated people should continue to wear masks. The consensus amongst experts remains conflicted, given that vaccinated people can still act as asymptomatic carriers. The backlash about the change in rules from both SMEs and certain elements of the public indicates that there are, as I said, a large number of people who will continue to wear masks even when not required and despite the CDC having changed their guidance. I don't have any figures as to "what proportion" of specifically vaccinated people continue to wear masks, but general popular support for mask wearing has floated around the 80-85% mark.

I'm not really sure of what you're trying to ask here, as it doesn't really have any relevance to what I've said. Do I think some people will be unhappy with the change in CDC guidance as they'll be cohabiting crowded spaces whilst unvaccinated with people no longer wearing masks? Yes, I'm pretty sure they will- public perceptions are important. But I don't quite see what this has to do with either my comments, or Biden's.

Sorry, what?

Mask wearing within public places is as much for the protection of the individual as it is for protection of others. The solidarity argument is an entirely valid one, but one reasonably assumes that the CDC's guidance is evidence-based. I still don't know what it has to do with Biden, though.

So you're surmising.

That's fine. smile

You know a scenario where everyone is told to wear a mask, as it has been until now, is an entirely different scenario to that in which some are told they can stop wearing masks if they wish to while some are told they still have to carry on wearing masks.

Note the White House chose not to wear masks on the first day.

It's not going to be pitched battles between maskers and non maskers, I am sure, and hopefully Americans will show their understanding side.

I hope so. Mrs. Guitar is in NYC and has received many dirty looks and a few rude comments whilst walking the dog maskless, despite being outside and well away from the people who have taken offense. She's actually gone back to wearing it outside to avoid any issues. It completely pointless to wear one outside, so hopefully this latest advice will put an end to the stupidity.

I don't fundamentally disagree, but I also don't really think that's the CDC's problem, the same as I don't think the Biden administration is responsible for advice issued by the CDC.

Nah, she's very diligent about that, even though Reginald produces something so pungent it is scary to approach it...eek

POTUS tweet

“The rule is now simple: get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do.

The choice is yours.”

Thoughts? Vaccination card to prove your status?

Divisive?
Decisive.
True but will it be divisive?
If it happens, it would be divisive for sure, but it wouldn't cover very much: Most of this stuff would be handled at a state level. Only federal level stuff could have vaccine passports applied to by Biden. So he could mandate it was necessary for air travel, for instance, but not for going into stadia.

I suspect they won't do it anyway because the logistics would probably be a massive pain in the ass. As far as I can tell, there are multiple places vaccine records could exist. Some vaccinations have been done through federal support (for example by FEMA), and some through state programs. Others are done in pharmacies.

I would imagine the state level records are kept seperately to federal ones. If that's the case, I'd imagine the chances of anti-passport states (like Florida) cooperating would be very slim. Of course they might all be kept in one giant database and I'm way off, but if that's the case it's way more coordinated than most US government programs typically are.

It's a totally ridiculous comparison, nobody on the planet could possibly come close to trump's iness. He divided the USA probably beyond repair and left an entire party in tatters and a significant part of the population literally unable or unwilling to separate fact from fiction, living in a self/trump-created land of fantasy.

The damage trump did to the USA is immeasurable.
And he's still living in the spacious brain cavity of lefty's. Do you think you'll get over him during your life?

You should genuinely be ashamed of yourself for writing this - America is probably at it's most divided since the Civil War and it is down to Trump - and all you want to do is make childish comments about lefties - you are part of the brain-dead and blinkered who cannot see beyond making a cheap and petty insult when all around you is in disarray and in many cases burning down.

Lim's radicalized, from the comments it makes here, and completely obsessed with 'the left'. Not sure it could feel 'shame'.

I firmly believe that there is a small but irrationally vocal group of regular posters in NP&E whose basic comprehension of what constitutes "left" and "right" ring ideological positions is so absurdly skewed they consider Albert Hertzog to be "a bit lefty".

I've never considered the trump debacle as a 'left' or 'right' thing at all, but some of the radicals posting here seem genuinely to believe that being aware trump is the worst president in history makes one a 'lefty'. It's illogical and rather unintelligent, frankly.
