I realised last night that if someone is in an eligible group (e.g. either 64 years old, a carer, has underlying health conditions etc.) then you can book online to have a vaccine at one of the mass centres without having to wait for an invitation.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19...

as a result, my 64 year old mum got booked in for 9:15 this morning smile she was going mad waiting to be contacted by the NHS as my Dad had already had his as he's 65.
Big thanks for the link, i didn't know they were doing 64+. I have just booked on line for tomorrow. cool

I know many of us in the UK look over the channel and wonder why the hell AZ stocks are sat unused, but I do wonder if the situation would be all that different here if the UK had bought the Russian and Chinese vaccines to get us going before our own one arrived on the scene. Sputnik V would appear to be an excellent vaccine, but I can only begin to imagine the conspiracy theories that would have begun to circulate. Take up here in Wiltshire would have probably been particularly poor.
I would expect most Europeans trust the UK science sector a little more than China or Russia. AZ is also a UK Swedish company.

The EU politicians have done a superb job of damaging the reputation of AZ though, there is a definite disastrous fallout from that unfolding, which will cost lives.

In more sane times Macron would be getting a right rodgering for that act of vandalism.

If the UK regulator was happy with the studies and approved a Russian or Chinese vaccine and especially if it was then manufactured in the UK and pushed by Whitty, Vallance, etc I'd imagine take up wouldn't be all that bad after a few celebs survived it.

Sputnik V is already being studied in combination with the Oxford vaccine as a purposely mixed regimen.

I agree this may turn out to be a problem.
A couple of mitigations:
  • fewer helpers will be needed for the later groups (the fit/healthy/generally mobile)
  • unemployment is up
I'm not happy about the latter one, but if it has any upside it's that there isn't a dearth of people.
My wife and I are early retirees, missed the boat for volunteering first time round, happy to fill the void if needed. There might be a dip in volunteers but I suspect it could easily be filled.
It might be there is more retirees who will volunteer going forward, as they should be protected so it would be a much easier choice for them to do so than before.
The majority of the volunteers in my centre are retirees who has never volunteered before (maybe an opp to get out the house/to do something worthwhile?). There's also a large section of volunteers who are involved as their previous volunteer role are suspended (e.g. me, a fellow volunteer is a stem cell courier for Anthony Nolan etc..). Also, my Council volunteer group has ceased all new registration due to the huge uptake. When shifts do appear online, they are quickly filled, and from my view (and I know it's only a small representation of the country), I really don't believe volunteer resource will be an issue going forward. Personally, as an early retiree (left the corporate scene @ 47), I will continue to support the vaccination programme until it ends.

The emotions have been like a roller coaster since her dad was being nursed at home last September (died in October). Every week brings something new and unexpected. Her mum's been heading down hill since then. Wife had been going around to have lunch with her daily, because that's the only way she gets a proper meal. I've told my kids to take me on the train to the top of Snowdon and leave me with a flask.

By my count it's 21025-16797 = a drop of 4228 in the last week.

Currently waiting for my paperwork to clear with the local authority for volunteering, I have a few mornings / evenings and weekends free so I thought I may as well help out!

Just so you know where the author is coming from.

COVID 19 is being used to create a global fascist dictatorship. From New Zealand to the the U.S, so called western democracies have adopted and developed the Chinese model of technocracy to create a single biosecurity State.

The article may contain some enlightening insight into the data, despite the author being an obvious crank, I gave up after the first obvious falsehood.

Is the data wrong? That is all that interests me.
