To check you've put your NHS number in and not someone else's (i.e. another family member) by mistake.
Good point - well put. I'd not thought of that.

Bit weird. Why has it gone 70-65-60-56 (and not 55)?
Wild guess, more people in the lower age categories and they're trying not to flood themselves. Second guess is a typo.

Indeed it does.

I've just put my NHS number in and DoB (why does it ask that ? If my NHS number identifies me, surely they know my DoB ?). However, I'm 52 so it said I'm not eligible yet (which I was expecting).

I did have a text on Monday saying I would receive a letter "shortly", but so far nothing. But that rather depends on your definition of "shortly" of course.
Still can't bloody book it! irked

Almost 900k tests done today, nevermind the vaccine rates, the testing rate is amazing!
A lot of secondary schools started doing them today so they could bring kids back in more quickly. Monday's figure will be bonkers.

Here’s some good news; we’re only about 5m doses away from 50% of the UK adult population receiving their first dose.

With the expected ramp up in just over a week, I can see a majority of UK adults having had their first jab by the end of this month.

Unless VDL starts a nuclear war before then, all bets are off with her...

You live in the Port, mate. Highly likely you’ll end up at Chester race course.

Think the numbers will creep up back to 400-500k range rest of this week and into next then should start to increase end of next week on. Over 30 million by end of march is a real possibility saying that they only need to do 2.5 million a week to achieve that so if we do get to close on 1 million a day might be sooner.
There’s talk of upto 1 million doses a day which would be great, we have just under 11 million of groups 5-9 left to do and by the 15th if we average 300k doses a day that’s an extra 3m which would leave 8m left to do which could easily be rattled off in under 2 week,

Then 30-40 and 40-49 could be done by end of April quite easily

I bet the number of people getting seriously ill with a seasonal respiratory disease will really drop by the end of April...

Memsahib went to her doctor for a rendezvous for the vaccine. Here they have changed from Pfizer to AZ. What shocked her was the fact that she learned that 30% of the staff at the hospital at Le Mans have refused to be vaccinated and that over 100 patients have caught Covid because of that. And that her doctor has had Covid twice, each time caught from patients. Surely, no matter which country, it should be made compulsory for everyone. It makes sense, to me if no one else.
Compulsory? Thankfully the UK isn't a dictatorship yet.

A top doctor was quoted as saying that this operates like influenza and will rise between November and April as flu does so yeah it should die down I hope the vaccinations do work as well

Which does kind of beg the question why the younger people (who are far less vulnerable) will be vaccinated over summer. Especially if they are not sure how long the immunity from the vaccine lasts.

Surely it would make sense to start with the younger people, if they want it, in late summer/early autumn to get ready for winter.

In any event, from what I see from the data, the younger people are pretty low risk for serious illness in any event. Read an article today, that based on the current information, a mid 40s unvaccinated person probably has the same risk of serious illness as a vaccinated 70 year.

And in other news, there was an ad in the paper wanting volunteers to monitor the safety of the vaccines. “ the DRSU are conducting a study to study the safety of the Covid 19 vaccines in the UK public” and “must be monitored once they are in “real life” use.”

Just booked my two doses on the NHS online system. End of March and then June. It's a good feeling.

Depends on what type of immunity I suppose. I think one can quite reasonably expect a long period of protective immunity to last from the data somfar. Equally that data so far suggests that sterilising immunity that prevents transmission is much less likely to last anything as long. It probably doesn't matter so much in terms of timing for the younger group to get it once the older over 60s are done.

Given it matters to the government to claim a success for coercing everyone into getting stuck with a needle irrespective of risk, that's the main why it'll be done that way ie as fast as possible anyway....

I'd keep trying. My area now is allowing over 50s to book through the system. Yesterday it was 56.

How so? What were your chances of having a serious case of covid to start with? Do you not trust your own immune system? Have you ever had the flu vaccine and felt good about that?

Just intrigued to know why younger people are so keen to have this vaccine when all the evidence based on 12 months of infections, hospitalizations and deaths says that they don’t need it.

Thanks - the thing that I can’t fully weigh up is how some people have an immune system that appears to fight of the virus better than others and whether a natural immune system is better than relying on a vaccine for younger healthy individuals.

Given what we have seen from the last 12 months, it would appear that the old and vulnerable with co morbidities including obese, do seem to be the worst effected. But not even all of those.

We have a relative who lives in a block of retirement apartments and whilst some of the residents picked up Covid, none of them died and only one required a short stay in hospital.

Well you'd think so, wouldn't you? However, there's also been a relentless campaign of fear including radio stations, social media and news channels; what I call Project Fear. Even the bloody traffic updates say "only make necessary journeys".
Of course, us wise old dogs on PH haven't been fooled. But a lot of people have come to believe that "the virus is deadly and the vaccine is our saviour". Including some younger folk.
Plus, of course, those youngsters want a foreign summer holiday and (as Cyprus has indicated) the vaccine makes that possible.
