I'm going with Currys PC World as all my attempts at trying to order a washing machine through them are currently failing.
I think that's a good shout, I haven't used their stores for I think 8 years now, to put some time reference on it the last thing I bought from them was an Ipad 2 when they had just come out.

They cut all their other high street brands premises and moved them under the one roof to cut costs but surely there is no more cutting to be done and other suppliers do the online side better than they do.
My Microwave went tits up on New Years day evening, welcome to 2021. biggrin
I went online on the Currys PC World website, had a look at the options, found one that was ideal with 50% off, paid for it to collect next day, got the email with all the info needed.
I then decided to buy an Ethernet adapter for my new laptop, so did a separate order, same process.
I then decided to buy a new laptop case, got one with a wireless mouse for 1/3 of normal price in the sale, same process.

Next day i turned up at the store, parked in the collect bay, used the link from the email for each item ordered, few minutes later lad pops out and pops all three orders in my boot without me needing to even get out of the car. It couldn't have been easier.

There were opportunities for them to miss one of my orders during this process because i did it the hard way, all went perfectly. Lad who brought the goods out even gave a thumbs up for my car. biggrin

Well worthy of a thumbs up!
I'd get the same in mine doing the click+colect @ Sainsburys during the lockdown

Are you sure it was a thumbs up? And not a "meet me around the back" sign - as with all the tints and black theme, he guessed you were a drug dealer and want to buy

hehe

biggrin Tints are factory dark in the rear as it's a JDM, front sides are normal tint level, not gangsta dark tint all round.

Same here, although I had to open the car door, as opening the boot would have reveled a frothy mouthed barking snarling Dalmatian. He does not like visitors in his boot.

In Jan/Feb 2020 I noticed a 24 hour gym was getting ready to open near home. I was interested as this meant I could work out before I got home from work at night and it would have suited me.
In early November they started work on the place again, have then had a lockdown and now Tier 4 to contend with.

I’m all for sensible precautions but I’m not sure that hospitality, leisure or retail has been the main place people contract the virus.
yeah I nearly joined one next to the Metro Centre which I think was 24 hours. Strange location in a business park but happy to give it a go for £14pm

Unless the government waives business rates completely, and also pays the rent. Why would any impacted retailer now not walk away and then take another lease later. (unless the unit is exceptionally well located and they don't want to lose it).

Most large companies are probably structured suitably so they can hide the cash in the parent company, and smaller retailers are probably running out of retained money.

Landlord would probably offer a free period if demanded. As no one else will take it.

Shame on a personal level as did some work with them a couple of years back so know some of the guys there, saying that it was around the time of the CVA and we had to put them on Pro Forma invoicing back then, the outlook apparently wasn't great then, guessing Covid was the final nail

Have to say, every time I have walked by one of their shops I have thought "How is this a business?"

Add Typo and Oliver Bonas to the list of shops that seem to sell junk that nobody wants.

I notice Hema in Kingston has shut down, leaving another hole in the high street. I know they were trying to sell the lease on for a while, the rent alone was £500K a year.

I predict they will pull out of the UK completely this year.

I don’t know the management team at HEMA, but if they willingly signed up to £500k a year rental in Kingston, I think they need quite a lot of help.

They have only recently opened a new shop in Taunton, shop beautifully refitted at probably enormous cost, I had a bet with SWMBO that it would be gone in a year. Looks like I will and wont be putting something in the dishwasher.

Looks like the rent is now £385K a year and the business rate is £195,967.50 a year.
