Then how are they pursuing a Driving Whilst Intoxicated charge? I understand that intoxication can result from a very small amount depending on the person but 25% of whatever the legal limit is seems to be pushing it somewhat.
This is the US and they have a habit of throwing charges at the person and seeing what sticks. It gives the prosecutor a starting point to negotiate from. That is part of the game. I have seen 30+mph over speeding tickets turn into very expensive parking tickets. That is why you see outlandish claims "X is looking at 25+ years for the offense". Yes, the one that was charged but by the end it will be time served and everyone will cry about a miscarriage of justice thinking X would see out those 25 years.

The first assumption I have to make is that the park cops are not Bruce fans. If they were, this would not have happened. Also, it is worth noting that, unlike the UK, drinking while driving, or in charge of a motor vehicle is illegal. Does not matter what your blood alcohol level is. This varies from state to state. In some states having an open bottle in the car will get you a ticket. Even if it is in the boot! Want to bring home half of the bottle of wine that was drunk at dinner by your passenger and for your passenger? Can't.

It is the fact Bruce drank in front of the cops that will have pissed them off. I had similar when a friend of mine stepped out of my building with a beer bottle in his hand. The cops went ape st at him because he was out of town. "You wanna come to our city an' fk us?!? Treat us like st?!?!?" and worse. It was only when I pointed out the bottle was empty that they just drove off. Oh yeah, drinking in the streets is mostly illegal. It seems the brown paper bag makes the alcohol disappear.

It is unlikely that anything more than a fine will come from this.

Sandy Hook is a really nice place with a fascinating history. I have been many times, and have even flown a plane over it practicing stalls. At the far end there are beaches with good views over NYC. Be careful which one you go to though as one is a nudist beach. It is the military's links that appeal to me as it has been a strategic post, protecting NYC, for many years before it was opened to the public. You can go inside the old gun towers which are huge. There is also a fort at the North peak that can be explored. When you drive through Sandy Hook you will notice a landscape of craters. This is because the US blew the st out of it for many years testing missiles and explosives.

Yes, my interest too. Linked below is an an excellent article about rifle tests carried out there waaaay back in 1879.

Sand Hook Tests of 1879

In the tests at 2,500 yards,...

When the Springfield long range cartridge was fired, the 500-grain blunt nosed lead bullets propelled by 80 grains of black powder in the 2.4-inch cases at about 1,375 fps penetrated right through the three inches of wooden target and buried themselves in the sand. One 500-grain slug pierced three inches of target and buried itself in a supporting six-inch post, giving a total penetration of a measured 5.25 inches. The Service 405-grain bullet gave a penetration of just 1.12 inches, and the Martini-Henry 480-grain bullet, 2.50 inches.

They got some of these rifles to shoot out to 3,680 yards - that's quite simply staggering!

Sandy Hook NJ (not to be mistaken with the Sandy Hook school shooting) used to be armed with these

They were not exposed when they were loaded though. This shows the mechanism out of the building.

They were on a turn table with a raising mechanism allowing the gun to drop to ground floor behind the massive walls. It was loaded and then raised to the 3rd floor to expose the gun. Those firing would be on a different floor to those loading.

When looking at a map you can see why it would be a strategic position

I realise we are waaaay off topic but the Bruce thing isn't going anywhere. Funny anecdote, At a company I worked for the person in charge of a training course took out the people on the training course to a restaurant where he got very drunk. He then took them to a strip club where he continued to get more drunk. This was lunch time and they were meant to be taking the test to pass the class after lunch. When they did finally make it back to the headquarters of the very large, but not well known, company he danced on a company car at the entrance to the building. It was not his car. He then decided that going back to work was probably not a good idea so drove home. Half way home he crashed his car and fell asleep. The cop that that found him....was his brother in law and drove him home. No charges filed. That is how it works in the US.

My mother in law was let off a speeding ticket because the judge was a fan of her pizza restaurant. My father in law was let off one because the chief of police played in his illegal poker games. That one was fun because it was a new to the area cop that was about to write the ticket when my FIL said "check with your chief" and afterwards an apology was given. Alabama? Nope New York.

This is true and still a little shocking having lived here for 20 years. There is an attitude that if you don't hurt anyone then it is OK. Having grown up in England, it just does not sit right with me. Especially as Ubers are ubiquitous.
Apols for trimming but it is bad across North America generally.

In Ontario they operate a car breathalyser immobiliser program for people who have been suspended for drink driving (or drug driving) 3 times over a 10 year period. They have to blow clear but they can still drive legally.

Just wouldn't happen in Britain.

Hahah that is one of the weirdest things about the US, going to a strip club for a business lunch??????

I had a meeting with a guy in Teterboro, got taxi to the place and ended up in a strip club at 13:00, this was a very proper guy as well. I can’t imagine it ever happening in Europe, shall we meet in Bibendum or Spearmint Rhino? Not likely.

Really? The strip clubs in London do a roaring lunchtime trade. Certainly on Thursday and Friday, it's a bit quieter Mon-Wed. That's pre-pandemic, obviously.

Lol I can’t say I have. I still can’t imagine going to a strip club for a meeting with someone I barely knew.

Wonder if they handcuffed him to the bumper of the State Trouper's Ford?

Charges dismissed today because Bruce was not DWI. Thee cops we obviously not fans and were making his life difficult. He did end up with a $500 ticket for drinking in a park though.

Fair result for the boss.

Would highly recommend the podcast he released this week with President Obama. Really interesting to hear two key parts of American history talk about their lives and friendship.

It's called Renegades: Born to Run.
