I wonder who will take up the role of insulting just about everybody if he doesn't make it hehe

As an aside, it appears Harry has a private jet on standby to come over to see him. Luckily, as a Royal, he doesn't have to quarantine and will be allowed to visit him in hospital if that's where he is. rolleyes
In this particular case I would have zero issues whatsoever with family members travelling to his bedside!
Indeed. I wish everyone who had a terminally ill relative could do the same!
Indeed. Everyone should be able to do this, being a member of the royal family shouldn't come into it.
It sounds like bks to me. What does "having a private jet on standby" even mean? I doubt very much there is a plane sitting on the tarmac crewed and fueled ready to fly at a moment's notice.

Anyone can charter one if they want. They aren't busy at the moment so you'll have plenty of choice.

Im sure you could havd a plane fueled and ready to go with crew on call for a month.

Im also fairly certain Harry has enough friends in hollywood that could lend a plane for the funeral. They may even be going themselves.

Quick, say something about taxpayers' money.
If he pops his clogs before June the tax payer will be saved the cost of his missus sending him a congratulatory message on his 100th birthday. If her Maj reaches 100 I wonder is she sends herself a message scratchchin
Only if she happens to be in Australia.

An aircraft on standby will have a designated crew also on standby. While the crew is “on call”, they’re on duty and although don’t need to be at the airport, they must be able to get to the airport within say, an hour of receiving a call to fly. The actual timeframe varies from company to company, for example it’s two hours at my airline.

As soon as Harry or whoever decides they want to fly to say, London, a flight planning team will file the appropriate flight plans, a fuel load is calculated based on load, route and weather, the bowser will deliver that while the crew are getting the aircraft set up and ready to start.

Didn’t Maggie Thatcher get a state funeral?
I check the news daily waiting for news of Blair's ceremonial funeral, utilising a corpy bin wagon hopefully.

There were lots of stories about him being deliberately obstructive to police officers. He even had a go at me once when he failed to, a/ abide by the plan, and b/ inform anyone of the changes he’d decided on. He didn’t like using the state roller by all accounts because he had to have index plates attached while his missus was not required to display them. The order said roller #2 or 3 and he arrived in a Leyland van, cream, no markings. He complained that he had not been given preference at the lights (the officers were on post, but didn’t see the roller) and that no officer (me) had been beside the vehicle when it arrived. I’d been standing in a spot that gave me early sight of the roller from whatever direction it was going to come, and I wasn’t going to move from it for some damn deliver van.

He would normally have merited an inspector but he was busy with Princess Di, gods bless her, and he probably knew he’d only get a lowly sergeant.

I’d been warned by my inspector to take care I did everything right, and when I told him what had occurred, he sent a complaint to the royal protection unit about lack of information as to vehicle change. Their reply probably landed on the City commissioner’s desk at the same time as the complaint.

The police, it seems, saw a different side of him.

I'm a practical royalist, and I wish him well.

What's the demographic, I mean for really being a royalist? 65 years old +? Anyone who served in the war deserves respect but it's of no greater concern to me, the DOE than anyone else?

I have been to a couple of events where he was the guest of honor. One was a private dinner where he was an entertaining speaker, a lot smaller that I was expecting! I sat next to one of his protection officers who was a very interesting dinner companion, difficult job. The other was a DoE shindig where he was clearly in his element chatting to the youngsters. I respect the old boy and wish him well.

Quite a few on twitter think it's already happened, but that it's being kept quiet until Tuesday morning.

On twitter, quite a few think Trump is still the President, and that Biden is about to be arrested. Any day now. Just never today.

Twitter is not a reliable source. Too much noise.

Trust me he isn’t/wasn’t the worst Derek

They can all be quite demanding in their own ways ... but one of them is a complete prick, horrible, obnoxious, rude and just a complete entitled bell end. I don’t think anyone who has had any dealings with him has a good word to say about him, including my wife who was running the ward one of his children was in

I’m sure you can work out who I’m on about

Indeed. I've heard stories.

The Queen, on the other hand, was extremely pleasant. We had a regular gawper at the royals who worked as a telephonist. She ran her life according to the Court calendar and turned up at every event. We, the PCs on royal duty, would pull her in front of the press, just to irritate them. I got a good view of Chas and Di’s wedding and a little while after that, the Queen came to the City. While waiting, I boasted to the woman that I could see everything in front of St Pauls. Posing to a woman whom I expected to be jealous. Not my finest moment. I asked her where he was, and she said she was inside. Before the wedding she’d gone to Clarence House, met with the Queen Mum. The Queen had organised it.

Boy, was I was trumped!

After that, most of us would put her the Queen side of the barriers. She often got a wave. A PC said that one rainy day he stood the woman in the door of the pad to be visited, much to the irritation of those already there, in their finery. When they objected, he told them that she was a friend of the Queen Mum. When the Queen arrived, the woman almost ran out of the premises, only to have the Queen approach her for a quick chat.

That’s class, but not something shared by too many of her descendants.

She does a horrid job well, and with aplomb. I’m impressed. I’m a royalist. Whether I still will be when Chas gets the role remains to be seen. I’m certain he won’t be bothered either way.

Having worked in the Trade and Investment Department at the time he was the "Ambassador to Trade", I presume this is Andy.
