Idiots, should they be charged/fined.

He means travelled - Covid law/guidance/rules/whatever.
Yes, I initially thought he was on about them having rappelled down the cliff to pitch the tent. Which would have been even more crazy but at least demonstrated a level of skill.
Sad to hear about that rescuer who has been paralysed saving someone.
Ah. I googled it as I thought it was some climbing term I was unfamiliar with. Yes, I initially thought he was on about them having rappelled down the cliff to pitch the tent. Which would have been even more crazy but at least demonstrated a level of skill.

Omg a family pitched a tent on their own away from everyone? Fine them! Covidiots! Its.people.like this that are the cause of all the lockdowns.
By pitching their tent at the edge of a cliff they have reduced by 180 degrees their risk of COVID exposure.Already linked above but I'll put it in again, the selfless trying to help the selfish and unfortunately for that chap it went wrong big time.

Good on them. Fck waiting until June.
YepOther than camping a bit close to the edge I don't see what they have done wrong.
The hotels are closed except in exceptional circumstances. As are self catering holiday apartments. Hence the tent I imagine.
They are getting out there and living their lives and there are more than a few who should be following their example rather than sit around moaning about "rule breakers".

What a shame the cliff didn't collapse and bury them under it.

This chap, there is a fundraiser for him that's doing very well if you want to search it out and add a few pennies.
I guess for OPs campers, if they needed rescuing, the rescuers could just walk there via the boardwalk with railings shown in the pic in this thread. This chap, there is a fundraiser for him that's doing very well if you want to search it out and add a few pennies.

There are bits of the oh-so-safe footpath that are closer to the edge than where they were tenting.
eg
Damn, there’s a train line as well, maybe narrow gauge. Won’t anyone think of the poor train passengers along with several hundred tonnes of train falling down the cliff?eg

Almost as if this other story isn't particularly relevant to the story of a family trying to enjoy themselves despite lockdown and is being used to demonise those seeking to enjoy their lives rather than embracing the joyless existence of the lockdown lovers.
Leaving aside the Covid stuff, it's just a fking stupid place to camp. Landslips in those sorts of places are common and it doesn't take much weight to set them off if you're in the wrong spot. Doesn't say how old the kid is that was with them but the tent isn't huge.
If we smash people for going walking up Ben Nevis in November in a t-shirt and trainers then we should apply the same principle here.

Family risk life camping on a dangerous cliff edge. And have ravelled against current CV rulings.
Apart from the CV19 fines should these people not be charged for the call out of the Coastguards etc?

Leave them alone until the cliff collapses or they get blown off or the children fall off the edge and the rescue teams have to come out and find them risking their lives.
It's like the idiots who go walking in the Cairngorms etc with no map/compass safety equipment or proper clothing footwear and Mountain Rescue have to find them. One rescuer in the Lake District suffered severe life changing injuries a couple of weeks ago rescuing a couple from Leicester/Liverpool who were camping in poor weather conditions.
Yes I agree folk should take responsibility for their actions but it's the people who have to pick up the pieces and the cost of their recovery which often runs into thousands where a helicopter becomes involved.
Hmm - except they were experienced campers, just that one of them was suffering from acute chst pains and needed hospitalisation. I often find these discussions hard to follow, we build, train, equip and fund (usually charitably) Mountain Rescue or Lifeboats as the ultimate safety net for when things go wrong. But then we make value judgements about who needed an emergency rescue and thats OK, and who is a mouth breathing low life who is a selfish moron.
People that volunteer, sign up to help both groups. There will always be people caught out by lack of experience, knowledge, planning and preperation. That will include from time to time well equipped, low risk groups or people caught out by conditions or accidents.

Moronic behaviour given rate at which some of our coasts are falling into the sea.
Not quite on the level of 'person falls to death over cliff taking a selfie', but still utterly moronic. And if one asks oneself "what were they thinking", the sad answer is invariably "they weren't". Also it's thanks to idiots like this we're all in an extended lockdown. I used to be sympathetic, but people need to grow up a bit now and realise how the vast majority are affected by the selfish actions of the few.Gargamel said:

I think the value judgements were more about the stupidity of choosing to camp where they did, and also for breaching COVID rules. But, no doubt like all selfish people, they felt that the rules don't apply to them and they know better.I often find these discussions hard to follow, we build, train, equip and fund (usually charitably) Mountain Rescue or Lifeboats as the ultimate safety net for when things go wrong. But what’s really astonishing is how PH seems dominated by them right now. I’m no fan of Covid lockdowns, indeed paid the price for it many times over, but still don’t have this vitriol against supporting society as a whole.
noticed this story, yet not given the 'dangerous slant;', when this story seems worse, taking a dog off lead next to cliff, then getting rescue to save them..
