Dr Seuss books cancelled

fking hell, the woke mob is on fire these days!

So within the last few weeks:

- Mr & Mrs Potato head had to be made gender neutral as mr & mrs is now offensive - meanwhile let's teach our kids about transgenderism in the effort to normalise it. https://news.sky.com/story/hundreds-of-young-trans...
- Dr. Hibbert from the Simpson can no longer be voiced by the white person who has been doing it for the past 30 years when nobody gave a st or even knew about it.
- Disney+ has added a content warning to old episodes of The Muppet Show for “negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures”.
- And today it has been announced that 6 Dr. Seuss books will be cancelled for apparently being racist. If you happen to own any of these terrible books, better burn them before your kids turn into white supremacists.

Seems like 4 years of Trump drove people completely batst crazy.

I have to admit, I can see where the Simpsons are coming from.

Just because you don't care, don't mean others don't.

Blackface, fortunately became a thing of the past a long time ago (mostly), but voicing a character with a different colour skin was still fine?

I can't say I'd get upset if a black man was voicing a white character, personally, but I can kinda see the point wrt that one.

But then, does that mean they're going to recast Bart, as he's voiced by a woman?

It's only confusing because it's misrepresented in more or less all the confected culture war reporting in the usual outlets. In reality the 'brand' is changing from 'Mr Potato Head' to 'Potato Head', because it's become a range of characters including Mr Potato Head, Mrs Potato Head and the rest of their extended polystyrene family.

Mr Potato Head's box still says 'Mr Potato Head' on it, but he's now a model, not the range.

Seems eminently sensible and balanced, which is why everyone is completely ignoring it and instead is going off on one and getting in a complete froth about "PC gone mad", "Snowflakes" and "in my day..." etc etc.

Not really.

It's a marketing ploy and a money saving tactic rolled into one.

Getting the anit-woke crowd rolled into a lather gets you advertising you literally can't buy. Your product is now being mentioned on tv channels you literally can't buy air time on and for free no less.

You're also cutting down the different products you're making, reducing two lines (Mr and Mrs potato head) into just one. One set of packaging, one logistics chain, one production line. You get the idea.

However such logical thinking doesn't get the perpetually angry into a beet-faced full on impotent rage.

You had better update Hasbro as you seem to be cancelling their toys - the statement is:

'Hasbro is officially renaming the MR. POTATO HEAD brand to POTATO HEAD to better reflect the full line. But rest assured, the iconic MR. and MRS. POTATO HEAD characters aren’t going anywhere and will remain MR. and MRS. POTATO HEAD.'\

Nothing to do with gender, more to do with selling a wider range of toys under a brand name which captures all of them.

First Apu, now Dr Hibbert? The Simpsons have always been about satire and gentle teasing. Can we get the episode of The Simpsons visiting London cancelled as it's offensive as how Brits are portrayed?

Dr Hibbert is one of the best characters, there will be nothing of the show left if this stuff continues

There’s a tweet on that page, with a picture of the new boxes where it very clearly says ‘Mr Potato Head’ and ‘Mrs Potato Head’ it’s just the name of the actual branding being changed.
