It's a marketing ploy and a money saving tactic rolled into one.

Getting the anit-woke crowd rolled into a lather gets you advertising you literally can't buy. Your product is now being mentioned on tv channels you literally can't buy air time on and for free no less.

You're also cutting down the different products you're making, reducing two lines (Mr and Mrs potato head) into just one. One set of packaging, one logistics chain, one production line. You get the idea.

What matters is that Hasbro intended to go through with it to show how woke they are. Just like Coca Cola intended to go through with their "be less white" training until there was an outcry. Until the 1940's pink was a masculine colour. Not entirely sure why, but I think it had to do with mimicking redcoats in Britain, and also red / pink was seen as a colour of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

So, things change, always have, always will.

Just like the DM once had a headline that wanted snowboarding banned then went on to sponsor the Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard Show. The NP&E Frothers will get all spitty and outraged, but it'll flow on past them,.

My opinion are as follows.

Gay people should be allowed to play straight people, and vice versa.

English people can play American people and vice versa.

But when it comes to race, and specifically accents, like Apu's, I think the roles should be offered to people from that background.

Is that confusing, hypocritical even? Possibly. I'm not perfect, that's just my thoughts at present. No doubt they'll change at some point.
